I have to agree whole heartedly Ajani. The term "Christian" is used so loosely these days, so that is why I tagged the term Evangelical onto it.

And I am still laughing about the Fred Phelps reference. That guy has a screw loose. I heard an interview with a member of his "flock" on Way Of The Master Radio (great show btw) and she was just scary harsh and could not be reasoned with.

He came and picketed a church I used to go to. He was on one side and a gay group was on the other. The church allowed the gay group to come in and join the service as long as they left their signs outside and didn't disturb the service with a demonstration. Phelps and his group was not allowed in.

I agree the term Christian is used by people who mean they just aren't any other religion, or their parents went to church at one time, etc. My teacher in school once said that you will ask people, "Are you a Christian?" and they will answer, "Yes, I'm not a heathen!" not understanding what the question really was.

hi ladies,

i am an evan christian... i am very involved with a bible teaching church - church planting and college ministry are very important to us.

i'd be glad to join in with you - i agree evangelical gets a bad name, but you don't have to go to an evangelical free church to be an evangelical christian - so long as we are sharing our faith, to me its evangelical (no offense to e-free church, my inlaws actually are in one!)

i have been married 3.5 yrs, no kids, we are ttc and praying about foster/adopting kiddos. i currently watch my 5mo old nephew a few times/wk. quit my ft job 3 yrs ago to stay home and have kids, i would love to homeschool, but god has other plans right now. we are self employed so i stay busy with that and fixing up our old house we bought last year.

i pray you will all feel god close to you and be comforted in your ttc journey.

There was a recent study that was conducted, saying that 90% of Americans claim to be Christians. Unfortunately, less than 20% truely live, breathe, talk, and act like Christians. About 10% are convicted Christians that read the word and are born-again Christians.

I saw that study. There was also one that asked what people believed, and it broke it down by denomination. Some were about 4% born-again, the highest about 20% or so. More churches are closing in the US than opening up. 70% of all church-going people from 18 to 22 leave church for a long stretch. Half those return before age 30.

Isn't that sad (about the study and America, really)?

I am guilty of leaving the church at age 18. I didn't return until about two years ago...my DH prayed so hard that I'd return and devote myself 110%. God is So Good!

Apart from when my grandmother took me, I never really went. There was a brief stint in my late teens/early 20's when I went by myself, but that was only for a month or two. Hubby and I found our church while dating and we've been there for 14 years now.

Hmmm. I grew up in an Assembly of God church. There was a college within the Assembly denom called "Evangel". I don't know the meaning behind those words. I can say that I am a God fearing, born-again, Christian woman who believes in Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior and I don't follow anyone but HIM!

Welcome! The basic belief of Evangelical is just that you believe in telling others about the Gospel. It can also mean a set of beliefs beyond that, but when people say Evangelical, often they just mean they believe in spreading the Gospel and Evangelizing.

There are some cysters on this board who are Assembly of God. In our area is seems to be very close to Church of Christ, which in some churches is Pentecostal. I know that denoms are different in different areas, but that's what it's like here. My Dad's side of the family goes to or have gone to AOG, same with DH's Dad's side of the family. My brother did, and my cousin right now goes to an AOG church and it seems close to Baptist except for their view of gifts. If you went to a regular service it would seem like a contemporary Baptist service. My cousin grew up in a Church of Christ (not Pentecostal), and other than the weekly Communion, the beliefs and messages were the same as in our Baptist church.

Hi ladies! I'm glad to see that there are some Christian groups on here! It's important to have that kind of fellowship when you are going through something like PCOS. All my Christian friends are great, but they just don't understand the heartache of PCOS a lot of times. Anyone in here spirit filled???

You can count me in! I don't typically like to claim a type of "christian", but my beliefs fall into the category you all have laid out. I believe in Jesus, being born again, spirit filled and the Word of God.

It is a very sad thing about the number of people who do claim to be christians and the amount that actually make the grade. We can't say we weren't warned though...it falls into that who wide is the gate that leads to destruction and many will find it...and many will say Lord, Lord and He will reply to them that he never knew them. It's very sad because "christians" are the hardest to actually convert.
