Default Any experiences with antibiotics?

Hi, all:
My acne has spiraled out of controlsince going off the pill. I've been on metformin for a few months, but it is not helping the acne at all. I went to a dermatologist who prescribed clindamycin (topical antibiotic cream) as well as an oral antibiotic to clear it up. Has anyone had any success with this type of regimen (or lack of success?) If so, how long did it take to see some improvement???

I am TTC so I guess the medicinial acne options are limited .

Thanks in advance for any info, ladies!

I use amoxicillian 500 mgs. 2x per day plus Klaron Lotion at night under my Retin a gel 1%. This is working just fine. No breakouts now for many many months. Also i have not become resistant to the amoxicillian. Thats a plus. I get occasional yeast infections but use homemade boric acid suppositories and it keeps that under control.

I took amoxicillin for about a year. It made me sick to my stomach every morning. I also pretty much constantly had a yeast infection. It was horrible. The best remedy that I have found for acne is eating a low-sugar diet. If amoxicillin doesn't make you sick, then I can't see any reason not to try it, but it didn't help that much and the side effects were horrible.

I use Prescriptives gel face wash for oily skin, the immediate matte toner and the day moisturizer with SPF for oily skin. At night I use the Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion. I also use a makeup that does not contain any talc- talc clogs your poors. It is colore science brand (google it, you can order online). I also try not to eat too much sugar, and I make sure I wash my face whenever it feels oily. Prescriptives also makes an acne serum, but I don't like it, it treats pimples you already have but doesn't seem to prevent them at all and it dries out your skin. I also exfolliate twice a week. Right now my skin is bad, but clearer than it's been in years, and I don't have any painful cystic pimples. I've been using this skincare regimine for about 6 weeks.

I just found a great solution for acne.....Its a perscription and can be pretty expensive!! But it works it can clear your face up over nite. It is called Duac Gel, ask your regular doctor about it. Or even your endocrinologist. Good luck!!!!

Default Careful!

Hi There:-) I had moderate acne as a teenager and took antibiotics for years. Long story short, I developed a large-scale resistant yeast infection in both my bladder and uterus that took me years to find out what it was and why it happened. So remember antibiotics are extremely intense drugs, even if doctors push them onto patients. i think it is unethical for doc's to prescribe the long-term antibiotics, but a small amount of time to see if it helps a big breakout, or taking it just before your period (which is an option) would be much safer. Good luck and be careful!!!

I took amoxicillian 500 mgs for 2 years & it was working really well. I did get yeast irritation... and now still do (never had that prob before the meds) but I counteract it effectively with daily acidophilus pills. I recently stopped taking the amoxicillian b/c I was afraid to be on antibiotics that long & knew I didn't want them when I get pg. My acne has come back but I feel better not being on the antibiotics so I guess it can be a Catch 22. None of the standard treatments ever really worked for my face. Good luck with whatever you try!

Red face

i too have delt with acne..since gosh knows when!! in the past few years..mine has become almost CYSTIC it self. My reg doc called htem boils. the deep ones htat you can feel for days!! oh man.
she prescribed minocyclin. that worked wonders. when i coudl see an outbreak coming..i could dble up.
but its in the tetracycline family..so DEFINATLY not to be used if TTC!!! bad bad things happen.

NOW, since trying to conceive..adn being off bcp is horrid to the skin!! I have been on SPIRONALACTONE. Its actually a diuretic, that way back in they day dermotologists used for acne. It helps, not as good as the other..but ya know...i feel better...
I wish it would go away...thats for sure!!

alright...night.

Once you're pregnant, your face should clear up. Mine did back in 2004-2005 with my daughter It was one of the greatest perks of pregnancy, other than a short relief from my generalized anxiety disorder! It came back in the 3rd trimester...
