ok this may sound weird ...but i actually really like the "walmart" brand low fat ranch....It's the great value brand or whatever...It diesnt seem to have that weird after taste. I also really like Krafts "light done right" 3 cheese ranch, it's very good also. I know how you feel...I only like ranch dressing and most of the low fat and fat free ones are nasty.

Hey, just now found this but I thought I would tell you how I make my ranch..I don't buy it premade anymore, haven't in about 5 years
I mix in light or reduced fat real mayo (you can use miracle whip I imagine, I prefer the real thing ) with fat free sour cream. I add in garlic powder, onion powder or onion salt, and parsley flakes You add them to your own tastes. Refrigerate about an hour before using to let the flavors meld and develop..everyone that has tried this that likes ranch loves it.

I make my own ranch too. I use mayo (you can use low fat or fat free also), milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and put in some finely chopped chives. Also sometimes if i want it spicy i use cajun seasoning in it. It's much cheaper to make and i just make it right in the half-empty mayo jar. Shake it all up and it's ready to go!
and i know it's better for you, but the low fat, or fat free Ranch, is gross. Even the Hidden Valley kind. I'm so spoiled. But for low carbers, they can have REAL 100% MAYO. I'm addicted to mayo...it's comforting to me.
I'm not big on fat free ranch either but I love Hidden Valley Ranch Light with Sour Cream. The regular hidden valley ranch light without sour cream doesn't taste well but the added sour cream gives it a great taste.

I make a homemade recipe that I love and get lots of compliments on.. I am sure you can make it low fat.
1 cup mayo - I use hellmans
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/4 teaspoon coarse grind black pepper
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix (buttermilk recipe) the pkg. contains 3 tsp. so you can make three batches from that pkg.
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
If it is too thick you can add a little more buttermilk sometimes it depends on the brand you buy.
