I am not sure, Just wanted to say hi to a fellow Canadian! I used to live in Saskatoon, and have relatives in Regina.
Best of luck finding a good doc

I'm currently seeing Dr. Akinbiyi in Regina. He's an OB/Gyn but seems to know a lot about PCOS and infertility. He started me on Metformin last September and now I'm taking Clomid with an hCG trigger shot. His office is in downtown Regina and you will need a referral from your family doctor to see him.
I DO NOT reccommend Dr. Akinbiyi. I can not get into any details however. I am seeing Dr. L Brydon. She is the reason I was able to conceive with my now 16 month old son and we are working on a 2nd pregnancy. FANTASTIC D.R.!!!

Hmm, that's interesting. The reason why I was referred to him is because my family doctor (who is relatively new to the city) referred me to another OB/Gyn and I found out that he had a 1.5 year waiting list... I was really upset so I called every Gyn in the city and Dr. Akinbiyi could see me in a few months (so my GP gave me a referral).
I know he has some beliefs that I personally don't agree with, but I haven't had any problems with him -- mind you, I haven't gotten pregnant yet either.
I've heard a lot of great things about Dr. Brydon lately... it's too bad I didn't get a referral to her.
I just started to see Akinyibi this past Feb/06. I am taking Metformin at this point. I am needing a doc that is agressive with treatment as I am nearing mid 30's. Any comments or advice would be welcome!!
I am currently seeing Akinyibi in Regina - just started this past February. I am taking Metformin. I am just wondering what problems anyone has had with him and if I should be trying to change doctors. Any thoughts or comments would be helpful!
Thanks.......

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner... I just saw this message now.
I started seeing Dr. Akinbiyi in Aug. 2004 and he diagnosed me with PCOS and started me on Metformin in Sept. 2004. In Dec. 2004 he started me on Clomid with ultrasound monitoring and HCG injections. Unfortunately after 3 months of that I wasn't successful (I ovulated but didn't get pregnant) because the clomid was thinning out my lining too much. He decided to add Premarin (estrogen) to help thicken up my lining and I continued with the clomid/monitoring and hcg shots for another three months. That didn't get me pregnant either so in June 2005 he referred me to the Foothills Fertility Clinic in Calgary. I waited a few months for my appointment and I was all set and ready to go for my consultation in October when I found out that I was pregnant a few days before. I'm not sure what happened but I think it was the metformin that did it. By that point, I had been on it for 12 months and I was ovulating regularly.
My experience with Dr. Akinbiyi has generally been positive. At one point, I was really frustrated with him because I didn't find him to be that aggressive and I wanted a referral to Foothills much sooner (after the first three tries of Clomid). I was upset when he wanted to wait for another three cycles --there is a wait to get in. I suppose I would have been frustrated with any doctor though, not him specifically because the drugs weren't getting me what I wanted. I guess looking back now, I'm glad I didn't get the referral sooner.
Makes me feel better. I am in my early 30's and just started the Metformin in February and havn't had a period yet. I will just keep with it and hope for the best. Do you have any ideas what the related costs were for the fertility clicnic in alberta. I am guessing that if it comes to that I might be out of luck. Also did anyone have to get the dye job for the uterus? I am supposed to go for that as soon as I have a period and am just wondering about the pain factor.
Thanks again - it helps to know what someone else experienced as none of my friends had these problems.

Hi Pinky,
Here's the website of the Calgary clinic... the costs are listed on their website but it totally depends on what treatment you undergo. The good news is that it didn't take me very long to get an appointment for a consultation. I was referred at the very end of June and my consult was scheduled for mid-October. Hopefully Metformin will do the trick and you won't need to go there. Metformin took a while to really work for me so try not to get discouraged by it.
Dr. Akinbiyi also did my HSG (dye test). I won't lie, it was painful for me, but others say it's not that bad. I'm not very good at dealing with pain though. The good thing is that it's over within a few minutes. Make sure you take the day off (and take painkillers beforehand!) -- you won't want to do much afterwards.
I have had PCOS for 12 years, and I know everyone is allowed to have there own opinion, but I have to disagree. I have Dr.Akinbiyi for 12 years and he has been nothing but fantastic, very profesional, I can not say enough good stuff about him.I just had an emergency histerectomy because of major bleeding and was so happy I had him for a docter.I tried everything ,so I know what you are going through. I would not wish this disease on anyone.I went fom 115 to 200 pounds overnight when i was first diagnosed. So please all I can recommend is see for yourself what kind of docter he is, and like I said some people may have gone through stuff with him that was emotional and I am sorry for that but all I can say is that he helped me through the roughest 12 years of my life and I love him. I ended up having no children but my health came first, and I will never forget how much he helped me.
