Default Any good Pcos dr's in Ottawa Centre?

I've been Ottawa for a year now and I have a gp, but he's not very up on the pcos. He sent me to a gyn/ ob and she said that I didn't have pcos and it was my bowels. Now I went and got those checked and it's definately not them, and I'm not making things up. The thing is I live in Centretown and work out in Rockcliffe Park. I got sent out to Kanata for the specialist. I'm very tired of my dr nad how he treats my pcos. He's a good dr but not right for me. Can I get some Help??????/ Please?????

Thanks Cindy!

Hi! Welcome to town! I've lived in the Ottawa area my whole life and am currently across the river in Aylmer.

I've heard there are some great endos at the Civic hospital and that you can get a referal from a regular gp. But I've never been, so this is all hearsay.

Good luck!

Default Civic Hospital

Good morning,

I have been looking for a new doctor in the ottawa area. I have found that the Civic hospital has an endocronology and metabolism clinic. Though as far as referals, I haven't been able to find names yet. But I will let you know should i come accross any.

I have also phoned Dr. O'Leary. I got his name off a doctor search engine. When I called to see if he treated PCOS, no one (receptionist, and 2 nurses to whom my call was transfered too) even knew what I was talking about. One nurse even told me that she'd call me back, she'd try to catch the Dr. and ask him if he treated it. (????) heh. by then I asked her to humour and tell me if she even knew what it was.. lol she avoided the question and said she'd call back and never did. sheesh!

I just got a referral to go see Dr Claman at the Civic. My doctor said he might deal more with fertility than pure PCOS, but I am supposed to go and see how he is.

He is accepting new patients right now, with a referral. The phone number is 761-4865.

Like I said, I haven't seen him yet, but the receptionist said he deals a lot with PCOS. Whether he'll only be 'good' if you're looking to concieve, who knows. I'm still going in for an assessment.

Dr Paul Claman at the Civic is the ONLY doctor who ever gave me any hope for getting pregnant...and he did...twice! (well hubby did but you know what i mean)

I originally got referred to him through my ob (Dr. S Aubin) at the RiversideH

The only thing with him is that he really encourages you to lose weight first...which ticked me off at first but when i lost 30lbs without meds i got pregnant on my first cycle of injectables...however the 2nd time around 30lbs heavier i did it again, with twins. ( i just recently lost them due to incompetant cervix...

the nurses there are really great too, i totally recommend the civic.

I just got the huge 'survey' thing Dr Claman sends out before you can get an appointment, and I'm wondering if he's right for me already.

I'm not concerned with getting pregnant (at all) but want to get my symptoms dealt with, etc.

Do you think he deals with other pressing issues other than fertility?

I'm glad you like him though. And congrats on your pregnancies!

Thats okay don't worry...anyway i was specifically referred to dr Claman so that i could get pregnant, but he also dealt alot with my pcos symptoms...
i dont remember doing a big survey but i started with him back in 97 i think so maybe he does it differently for new patients. What i like about him is that with all the other doctors there i believe he is the head honcho...i just felt more secure knowing he was the head of the department(at least i think he is, duhhhhh)
I only lost my babies a few short weeks ago and have been in a very emotional state, but he already has fit me into his schedule to see him about future possibilities(not that i'm rushing but i will eventuallly get started again...)

He's very focused and gets right to business but he listens to your quesitons and keeps you focussed. he always has a student with him and i've never had a problem with that...i just ignore them anyway
I find he lets you initiate the conversation and pays attention to what you want first before saying anything, so have your questions ready and waiting...i always write them down and just hand them over.
Good luck with whoever you choose...i wish you the best of luck

I am currently seeing Dr. Delani Kotarba in the Civic Complex Endocrinology unit. She is awesome. She knows exactly what she is talking about. She also seems very devoted. To my knowledge she is taking new patients right now. So I would suggest you get a recommendation to see her.

Smile Doctor

I was referred to Dr. Treehuba. She is located at 1081 Carling at Preston. She seems ok, she always has an intern with her and seem to talk more to them than me.

Hope you found a good one.
