"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference"
i am puerto rican and was diagnosed with pcos exactly four years ago. it was really hard to get diagnosed (i spent 3 years before that going from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what in the world was wrong with me) because all the doctors told me that i didn't have anything and that i was just vain. i cried so much.
since then, i've been taking spironolactone (100 mg) and yasmin BC. this combination has worked out really, really well for me. before i started taking medication, i used to laser my excessive, thick, dark hair in my upper legs, toes, butt cheeks, back, and face and it would just grow right back and now... i've had four or five treatments and.. there's barely any regrowth. i am so grateful.
i've had a harder time with weight loss. i think what's helped me the most is going to the gym four or five times a week, and mixing up aerobics with muscle training. it's really hard losing weight in my "abs" area. i just can't seem to get the curves+tiny waist look so many other latinas have. it's really frustrating. i still get really bad cravings for sweets and carbs sometimes. are there any strategies that you would recommend to prevent carb binge eating?
but now.. i'm worried because my hair has started falling out and, even though i've always had very, very thick hair, it's starting to thin out. what do i doooo?
are there any herbs or alternative medicines you could recommend to relieve these symptoms? i heard someone mention cinnamon pills earlier in the thread. where can i get them?? what does the omega complex do?
I am Colleen and I am Colombian/Irish. I have been recently diagnosed with PCOS after 6 years. I am ttc and it has been a tough road. My doc prescribed me with 500mg of metformin, phentermine, and prenatals. I have lost 33lbs since April and I feel great. I am trying to wean myself off the phentermine to begin maintaining the weightloss with the drugs.
I am 31 and hope to get pregnant within the next year... Any suggestions, stories, or encouragement you may have will help.
As latinas, we know how hard it is to maintain a house with very traditional latin men and their way of eating. So your stories help me feel like there are other people out there. I am finally getting to overcome the side effects of this disease and your support will be greatly appreciated...
I'm Lorena, salvadoreña, 23, and a newbie here. I'm not 100% sure that I have PCOS but am getting some blood work done next week because I do have all the symptoms...
Hi ladies, Boricua here!! I'm new to SoulCysters and was just diagnosed barely 2 months ago. I'm not currently taking any medication, just trying a variation of the South Beach Diet, limiting my sugars and working out almost everyday. I've lost about 15 lbs so far.
I have a YouTube channel documenting my weightloss process with pictures and discussion. Please feel free to stop by sometime and check it out.
