I am unofficially diagnosed, but have all the symptoms and my obgyn literally said he thinks I have it as well as people here at my university health center.
I was just wondering: Do any of you over time notice you get more tongue-tied, make more mistakes typing when you never used to, sometimes even seem slightly dyslexic? I also seem to be unable to concentrate on just one thing and retain information. Just wondering if any of this is PCOS related, and if anyone else experiences any of it. Thanks!
This is just my opinion but I think the IR that oftens accompanies PCOS can affect your blood sugar, which in turn can leave one feeling frequently "fuzzy-headed" and unable to concentrate. I was experiencing many of the same s/e's you're having until I started taking Metformin. Since Met, however, I feel more alert and mentally "sharp", if that makes sense. I'm now making less stupid mistakes at work than I used to before Met.
I too have noticed this in myself over time. I tend to get tongue-tied and find myself making typing mistakes that I never did before...in fact, I described it as dyslexic too! Glad to know I'm not the only one out there either! I am not on Met, so I can't comment on how that would work. I am on BCP and Lexapro.
Metformin helped me overcome those issues, but yes the IR can be a big factor in your mental state. Ask you doctor to do some blood work and see if met will help.
Good luck
Wow, I have episodes of confusion and it's totally related to my blood sugars! You ladies are right on! I love coming here and reading your replies because I feel like I'm reading something I would write!
I am a type II diabetic and suffer with blood sugars that are often in the 250+ range, but because of my weight loss surgery in 2002, if I encounter hidden sugars in foods, my blood sugar levels will drop, without warning, into the 30-40's, and I will be totally confused and dizzy. My typing will linger or stop....my oldest daughter even knows how to check my sugar and give me instant glucose to bring me back up so I don't go into a coma! Lord the health problems I've encountered since being diagnosed with PCOS! I do believe they are all linked, but I take it one day at a time! It's all just part of me, I guess.
Take Care and if you ever need to talk, I'm here! PM me anytime!

You know, I never really even connected them, but now that you mention it it totally makes sense. I have often commented that my fingers are dislexic because I make so many typos, and I just have such a huge problem concentrating some days. My boss thought it was just that I didn't care about my job and was just sitting there daydreaming. I would really try though, but it just kept getting harder to concentrate and I kept making mistakes and the stress and anxiety took over and I lost my job. I never made the connection with the PCOS though. I think now that I'm unemployed I should really get on my doctor about some of this stuff.
Happy New Year!! May 2009 be a better year for everyone.
Another disadvantage that I have is being dx with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatgue Syndrome. Sometimes I just get so weak and tired that my fuzzy, dizzy thoughts are double doomed with that plus the diabetes highs and lows!

I saw a report on Fox News today about blood sugar levels being linked directly to memory loss. It seems people with high blood sugar have a tendency to be more forgetful or have some kind of memory loss.
Interesting...
