Hi . I am 5'9 and 290 pounds. My doctor said she suggests giving me clomid when I am down to 200 pounds.:o
I figure if I DO lose 90 pounds,I would gain a lot of it back while pregnant. They say obese women do not gain that much pregnancy weight.
Is anyone out there obese and taking clomid? If so, was it hard finding a doctor that would prescribe it?
Thanks
I was around that weight when we finally went to the doc to ttc. Mine put me on metformin first - I think for 6 months. I did lose some weight - but not a lot. After 6 months we added clomid - I got pregnant on my 2nd round of clomid. My 'pre' pregnancy weight was recorded at 280 - I lost weight at first then gained what I had lost. When I had the baby (at 29 weeks) I weighed 292. GL!
Oh..and it was my regular OB who rx'd the metformin and clomid.
I think it just depends on your doctor. I was around 315 when I went to an OB/GYN and she started me on clomid right after she diagnosed me with PCOS. My weight was never mentioned.

hi and thanks for your response. congratulations with caden!
So I guess you didnt really gain weight. was it hard carrying that weight while pregnant? that is probably a stupid question but I thank you for your post. it really gives me hope!
Well since I didn't really gain much weight I didn't notice a problem carrying it. My shape definitely changed. It would have been nice/ideal to have been at a lower weight - but I (like most PCOS women) have a hard tiem losing weight and we'd been trying since 2000 on our own - starting at a time when I was MUCH smaller anyway - so I don't think less weight would have helped me to conceive.
I was at 262 (I'm 5'7")when I conceived my DD. My OB/GYN and my RE had me on clomid/Glucophage. Clomid alone never did a thing for me, I needed to be on both.
Sounds like it's time to find a new doctor!
Good Luck!!

My doctor recomended weight loss before starting it. I was about 190 at the time, and I didn't lose anything.
When I got pregnant with my son I weighed 197. The day I gave birth I weighed 190. God love my son, he sucked all mah fat to the front of me. My weight "loss" through pregnancy was never a concern because through ultrasounds they could see he was growing fine. Being pregnant was the best diet I've ever been on ha ha ha.
I'd just see if you can find another doctor. It seems most doctors who want to make weight THAT much of an issue don't know a lot about PCOS. It IS harder for us to lose weight than the average woman. To say to a PCOS woman, "You should lose a few pounds" is like telling everyone else... Hey... stand on your head in that corner and hold your breath for an hour.

HA HA HA! That is funny, but it is so true
Now why didn't I think of comparing it that way? That's awesome! I love it!
