Default Any one have weird heart palipitations on glucophage?

I recently started glucophage and after a few days I started having these weird heart palipatations where my heart was beating really strange and I had chest pain...... I was a bit freaked and my RE told me to stop the glucophage for right now and try it agin in a few weeks....... she said it could have been the BCP causing it as well....

Anyone else have this happen? TIA

Yes!!

Anxiety is a side effect. I had to PROVE it to the DR. The first few times of telling her about it, she kept saying "Oh, thats not on the list" I went on line and searched through hours of info until I found the detailed manufacters insert paper that has everything your pharacist doesn't have on the sheet. Once I told her, she found a sample pack with the sheet and sure enough it was listed. BUT! It was listed under the very rare side effect section.
Thats why it wasn't on the RX version.

I found out the hard way.
Driving down a freeway and thought I was having a heart attack!!

19months later and I can't go above 1000mg. Every time I tried to go above the 1000mg, I had chest pain, shortness of breath and felt very stressed and jittery.

Just this week I am trying to add 500mg mid morning. I did this because if I have too much suger I get thoses same effects. For some reason when I tried the GlucXR during one of those episodes it helped it pass faster.
Prob because the Glux is supposed to process the sugar faster, so it doesn't stay in your system as long.

I have not noticed a change in bowel habits either.

I hope by splitting it up, the time release will be spread out better.

I am also on an antibiotic so I may have to wait another week or so to really give it a go.

So yes...Anxiety IS a side effect. If you want for info, I can post it for you.

I get this too... I never thought it to be a side effect though. It makes total sense... I'll be doing next to nothing and my heart just jumps into my throat... and beats hard and fast for a min or less... and then its gone...

Can you maybe post a link to the where it talks about this as a side effect.

thanks

Hi again....

Here is the link.

http://www.glucophagexr.com/glucopha...ookie=Yes&null

On that first page, look down a bit for the link for full DR/patient information. Click that, then go to table 11. It is just under it.
I couldn't find my link that had the term "anxiety" listed.
But that section has all the symptoms of anxiety listed individually.

Thanks for the useful info....... I will present to my RE...... now I am nervous about going back on this med...... the weird heart things stopped when I stopped the meds so I know it was the Glucophage and not the BCP's....... After reading about Lactic Acidosis and chest pains and irregular heartrate being one of the signs I am very nervous, especially after they say that this rare condition is fatal in 50% of patients.....I am probably overreacting but I really appreciate this info..... this is all new to me and I am a bit freaked about all this info.....

Thanks for the info

Stephanie

I thought I would share..

I am now trying to take 1000mg at bedtime then 500mg at mid morning. So far I have been doing better. I haven't had any panic/anxiety issues and I don't feel like taking a nap everyafternoon. Just a bit of tummy ache that doesn't last but a few minutes. No running to the potty.

I honestly don't think the XR was lasting the whole 24hrs.(for me)
So I am hoping with spliting the dose I will have better control of my IR. Maybe this way I can get up to the 2000mg I should be at.

Good Luck,
Patty

PS...If you were to read the fine print on each med, you would be afraid to take anything at all. LA is very rare. So just be aware of your body and research it carefully so you know for sure what to expect.
