I swear, I think I must be the exception to EVERY natural alternative there is. I've had no success with NPC, while it seems to work great for others. Chromium did nothing for me in terms of assisting with weight loss and insulin sensitivity. And now, after trying saw palmetto for 6 months, I've noticed no improvement at all in my excess hair growth. So, it's back to the drawing board. Has anyone had success with any other alternative methods for hirsutism?
Have you tried vitex? It works on the pituitary gland to balance estrogen and progesterone and is also a potent DHT inhibitor. DHT ( dihydrotestosterone) is testosterone's evil twin and is responsible for excess hair, male pattern baldness and acne. Vitex works for some and not for others just make sure you use very high quality vitex. Other suggestions to block DHT is to try essential fatty acids combined with vitamin B6 and zinc. GLA ( gamma linolenic acid) found in evening primrose oil, black currant seed oil or borage oil is a potent DHT inhibitor as well as alpha linolenic acid found in flax seed oil. Vitamin B6 combined with zinc has also shown to inhibit DHT very well.
If insulin is the cause to your problems then have you tried a low-carb diet? Or a moderate carb diet with several insulin sensitizing supplements? You mentioned you tried chromium but at what dosage and which form? For insulin problems chromium must be used at atleast 600 mcg daily and up to 1000 mcg daily in the form of chromium polynicotinate or picolinate. You can also combine it with other insulin sensitizing supplements to increase effectiveness like R+alpha lipoic acid, magnesium glycinate, GLA and fish oil for example.
I'm taking vitex now. I just started a couple weeks ago after not having any success with NPC. I was taking 1000 mcg of chromium picolinate for several months, but didn't have any success with that either. I am on a low/moderate carb diet. I'm now taking magnesium, vitex, a B vitamin complex, multivitamin, and I just recently stopped taking saw palmetto because it's not doing anything. Since I'm not working right now it makes it difficult to keep trying all these different things because they definitely add up. Maybe I'll try to get some zinc to add the the B vitamins I'm already taking.
