I had the surgery 5 years ago, and started at 341.3 pounds. I lost about 140 pounds in about 3 years, but as my psychiatric meds had to be added back into the picture, my weight started going back up. Because I was on birth control pills (my period came back the day I had the surgery and lasted 6 months, after 18 months without it, so they determined I needed treatment for crazy periods), no one knew if my weight loss ended up helping or hurting my period situation. When my period went back up to 325, and my periods (which have stopped now that I've come off the bcp), it was determined I had PCOS.
Yeah! and to you! I had the "Y" done April 17th 2008 I weighed 374 the day of my surgery today Nov.24th I am down to 268. This surgery has changed my life- My surgery was on a thursday- I started my very frist AF on the very next Monday- I paniced!! I thought something had "tore lose" in there I was hurting and flowing! I went to my surgeon who was excellant!!! and he laughed at me said "honey" you have started your period! I busted in to tears- 32 years old my first period- It was amazing- but the surgery has also helped my facial hair- It is still there but doesn't seem to grow as fast and seems to be a bit softer, my dark patches on my neck, knees, and elbows are going away , and my Mother and my husband say I am so much easier to get along with. I am so excited to meet someone else that is going thru the same thing- I would love for you to share you experiences with me as well!!!
Hi there--I had RNY on June 13, 2008. My username on OH is "sablouwho".
My highest known weight was 269.5. Surgery weight was 229. As of this morning I was 169.8!
I'd like to be somewhere between 115-135. I'm 5'3", so I think somewhere within that range is do-able.
I don't take metformin anymore, and I've had a period every month since surgery. My fasting insulin level 3 months post-op was 2. My doc said normal is a level of 10 or under. Cholesterol and triglycerides are much better.
Still have hirsutism. Still getting laser. Restarting spironolactone and Zovia to help with this.
Acanthosis nigricains seems to be a little better, but it's hard to tell.
Hi ladies! I posted here earlier in the year, and I'm glad to say I had my WLS on July 24, 2008. After a lot of research and consultations I went with the lap band, and I've lost just about 50 pounds to date.
I was on BCP from age 18 to 30 (February this year) to regulate my periods, and so far since going off the pill I've had a period every month. DH and I are officially TTC now, so I'll actually go for a progesterone serum this month to make sure I'm actually ovulating.
I'll join the WLS Diva thread when I have enough posts (I think I have about 6 more posts to make until I hit 25).
This forum has been a great source of inspiration, so I'm looking forward to sharing my journey with you all!
Julia

Nice to meet you Julia. I too had a lap band. Best choice I've ever made. I've lost from my first phone call to date.... 46 pounds. I got a great gift from my bf marking the 50 pound mark. Did you celebrate it?
Hurry up and get enough posts... you'll be a great asset to our group. There are 4 or 5 of us with lap-bands now. Couple more in the works. Let's see there is Beth... she's had hers a while. I have had mine 3 months now. Sarah got hers the week of thanksgiving and Laura just got hers a few days ago. Oh and Brie who just has a baby girl. I don't know how long she's had hers.

Now my MS is back under control and im starting a new diet and excersise program to stregthen my muscles and get me back to a more healthy weight. I didnt gain as much as i could have but gained anyway. Good luck on your journey....

There is no little magic pill for weight loss....Its all about the work and effort you put in...
