I don't post here very often but I read the boards quite a bit. However, I had to post since just getting my period for the 2nd time in 2 months! A REAL, REGULAR cycle!!! I really think it is because of my recent experiences with a Reiki Master. I started seeing her for psychotherapy and she also practices Reiki with some of her clients if they are interested. I was intrigued by it so she did a treatment on me about 6 weeks ago. The very next week, I got my period... it was my first in many months.
I continued getting the Reiki treatments every other week or so and she said that I definately had a lot of energy troubles in the chakra surrounding my reproductive organs so she paid extra attention to that area each time. Well, just today, I got my period again - exactly 39 days after starting the last one. This is unbelievable for me as there's always been 5-10 months between my periods if I'm not taking meds (which i'm not right now). I realize that 39 days isn't 28, but I am hoping that with continued treatments, my cycles may get completely regular!! Yippee!!
P.S. I wonder about my weight loss contributing to all this, but honestly, i've been stalled at around 75 pounds for 3 months and i still weigh 249 so I don't really think it could be that.

The weight loss will make a difference, but maybe Reiki does too!
Yes, I'm a Reiki practitioner with traditional western Reiki, Japanese Reiki, and even something called Celtic Reiki! I never had a Reiki treatment, in my life from anyone else, but was just drawn to it then when I found a friend was a Reiki Master, she attuned me for free. So I've only ever Reiki'd myself. Later, I went and did two other Reiki courses with other Reiki Masters. My periods were one or two a year. Now, they're every 5 weeks. I wouldn't put it down to Reiki alone, but it definitely helps!
It could be cheaper to get attuned to Reiki I yourself. (In the UK, to be attuned costs the same as maybe half a dozen treatments, so if you're going to get Reiki a lot, it works out cheaper to get attuned to it yourself!) The other advantage of being attuned is you can Reiki yourself whenever you want, for as long as you need it! Once attuned, you have it for life. Even if you didn't practice for 30 years - you'd still have Reiki!
It's great, isn't it!

My reflexologist does Reiki on me at most of my appts. I find it sooo relaxing! I don't fully understand how it all works but feel that sometimes we don't need to understand just believe!
I do have a question though. Whenever I have Reiki done I find it very hard to breathe. Like a heavy feeling on my chest. I have to take slow shallow breaths for a while. The last couple of times I've been able to breathe 'normally' after a minute or two. Any ideas why that happens??
Also, my reflexologist says she sees pictures and colours when she does Reiki on me. What does that mean?? She says it's like a story unfolding to her each time. My most recent visit she said she saw blue and green colours. Blue meaning intuition and I forget what she said the green meant. It was weird because I was seeing blue blobs or bubbles. She's also seen bunnies hatching out of eggs, she's seen little girl dresses, stick ppl like children's drawings, and always lots of colours! Any ideas??

There are at least 3 symbols most practitioners use (often, just visualising) during treatment. Sounds like she's using a certain one that draws on, and helps, physical rather than spiritual energy. This one sometimes gives the feelings you describe. Ask her, as an experiment, to try different symbols on you in turn and see if you feel any different.

Doesn't neccesarily mean anything, although it could be her own private symbology - in whch case, only she can interpret it! But it's perfectly normal during Reiki for the recipient to 'see' or feel various things. It's also normal for them to see or feel nothing! Some people cry for no apparent reason. Others fall asleep. Others see colours, or feel heat, or cold, or pins and needles... Same for the practitioner. Myself, I don't get anything spectacular - just a feeling of heat. Even if you feel nothing it's still working, no worries!

I was attuned to reiki 3 weeks ago. So, I'm fairly new to it but it's something that has been coming to me for past couple of years. I glad it finally did happen.
I've been treating myself daily since reiki1 course - well one day I was so sick I couldn't but otherwise yes. My first cycle was normal (33 days), which isn't the case always as my cycle changes between 23-72 and mostly it's around 45-52. I don't know if reiki has something to do with it but I guess I'll find that out someday.
I couldn't actually find so many of threads about reiki and unfortunately none where was many posts. So I'd success that this thread could be the one where we reiki cyster come together to share our feelings, experiences and thoughts about reiki. I know I'd enjoy such a thread.
I wish you a good day and some good vibes.

I would like to learn more about Reiki! Like I've posted above my reflexologist does Reiki on me and she's mentioned it a couple of times to me that I should consider learning about it etc. It's definitely interesting to me. How did you learn to be a Reiki Master?? How long does it take etc??

Been away for a while and just catching up with older threads, saw this.
Hard for me to answer that when there are so many takes on Reiki, so I thought I'd post some of the better known sites, where anyone can browse and learn more.
There are lots of different Reiki traditions - some you get 'attuned' to, others based on older, Japanese practice, do something called 'reiju', some call it 'empowerment'. They all come to the same thing.
Attunement/reiju whatever you want to call it, only takes quarter of an hour or so. But for the different levels of Reiki, you have to learn and assimilate information. Well, nothing much for level 1 which is enough to help you Reiki yourself and maybe your immediate family. But in Reiki II and III you have to learn the symbols and sometimes background material. I also read a little about buddhism, as I felt it would be disrespectful to get into Reiki without understanding a very little, at least, of the culture from which it came.
There is a lot of secrecy around reiju/attunement. Some Reiki people believe in giving out info even to non Reiki people, others don't. This reticence isn't for cultish, sinister reasons - there are valid reasons for it. Since the 1980s, the symbols have been in print and can be tracked down by anyone. So it's hard to decide how much to say, re. attunement.
What is already well known is that during reiju/attunement, the Master 'passes' the symbols to the student, places them on them, so to speak. There are as many different ways to do that as there are Reiki Masters.
My first attunement was from a friend and it was in a form of what I now know to be 'Western' Reiki. I since studied a more Japanese style Reiki with these people and although they do distance Reiki reijus, I went to one of their 'in person' courses. Even if not in the UK, the site is interesting and will tell you more about reiki than I could here:
They are unusual in that they send out course materials ahead of the actual day of attunement, so you can get familiar with it all and on the day, just relax.
Some other reiki masters do that. Others, expect you to learn the symbols on the day if doing Level II and there used to even be a rule that you couldn't carry representations of them with you out of the room, so there'd be no chance of non Reiki people seeing them. Again, this isn't sinister - it's a cultural thing, a feeling the symbols work less well for someone who has seen them before attunement.
These Aussie people have written what I think are the best books on Reiki - they have disentangled a lot of its history and also de-bunked some of the New Age western claptrap that it attracts.
(Chakras, for example, are a late and Western introduction - nothing to do with Japanese Reiki, as chakras are an Indian concept, not a Japanese one).
I'd read Bronwen and Frans Stiene's 'The Reiki Sourcebook' if you are thinking of doing Reiki, because then you can choose a style of Reiki that suits you. I like a stripped down, fairly instinctual version, closer to the early one. Many other people like the New Age stuff better. Both work. Reiki has had hundreds of offshoots and some people are very dogmatic that 'their' Reiki is the only true one.
If you explore articles on the Steines' site it might clarify a few things!
This gentleman is also very well known in Reiki circles, worldwide:
Daisy girl-
That's great news! The holistic fertility place near me has reiki and I was thinking about booking an appointment. My issue right now is irregular spotting between periods. Do any of you who are more familiar with reiki think that it will work for spotting?

Jess, I've been treating myself to break bad habits, but think I might also start just Reiki'ing self generally, with helping the PCOS in mind. Tell me how you get on!

I've had Level I attunement for just over a year, and recently reviewed L1 and got my L2 training/attunement. Ironically, it just occured to me about a month ago to start trying to treat my PCOS with it. Wonder what this forgetfulness is about?
I can treat myself, but I'm curious: has anyone else had an experience of being treated by someone else with stronger/different results than when you treat yourself?

I had sort of lost track of this thread!! Sorry about that... Once again, my period is here after having had a reiki treatment 3 weeks ago. I stopped having them regularly for about 2 months and didn't have a period for those 2 months either. I really believe that Reiki is real and that it works for me!! I'm going to ask for monthly treatments from now on.
I've also considered becoming a reiki practitioner once I get some extra money and some time to learn and go to the classes.
Hugs,
Candace
