Hi all!

I've been away for so long. I have had some major changes in my life in the past couple of months and haven't really taken time to do reiki. I ended up with longer cycle again then. It was 50 or so days long, I even took progesterone and it didn't bring af either. I don't know maybe it was just all the stress or something. I wouldn't want to think it was because of not doing reiki.

I've tried and tried to gather some money to take Reiki II -level but it just doesn't seem to happen. I've send a wish to the universe like ten times each week. Well, I guess it takes place when it's meant to.

I wish all you reiki-cysters nice summer!

I'm so glad that there is a thread about this! I have a friend who recently became a Reiki Master & she has done Reiki on me for my asthma. It worked well & the feeling after the treatment was wonderful!

Now that we are TTC, she has offered to some more treatments for me. I'm so excited to start them, I have my first one next week!

I just had an experience offering reiki to someone who was partly conscious, but she said "thank you" when I stopped, so I think it must have been helping somehow. I know it works--it's worked on me, but every so often I start to doubt, especially since I moved from a place where it was understood and accepted to someplace where there's still a lot of skepticism. Does anyone else have that problem?

My mom has her level 2 and, oddly enough, I've never even thought to ask her about helping me with my hormonal problems. She's given me treatments before when I have been sick with a cold or something like that, but never for any "real" problems.

I can't wait until I see her next! I'm totally gonna monopolize the reiki in her!

sgordon, you go for it! I find when I'm keeping up with my practice (treating myself every day), my cycles get regular and my moods level out, and I don;t even want to eat junk. So it definitely works!

Leela, I've encountered a sceptic in my own family and it's a shame as she's the one person who could most do with some reiki for her issues. But that said, it works whether the recipient believes in it or not, eh? Even so, I find negativity hard to deal with and I can't always be around it. I'm just not interested in convincing anyone of anything!

I don't usually bring up Reiki with my family or friends. Many of them know and I have mentioned, but no one has really not asked for it. Sometimes I ask if I can send them some energy when they go for an importat situation and they say yes. But None of them have ever asked it for anything physical. And I have not tried to get through and advertized.

I wish I did practise more often. My cycles are again looooong but I haven't really get myself going and kept up. I do think of Reiki everyday and most of the days I do give myself short treatment when relaxing. But I handle only few chakras at a time. I know I'd need more but just can't.

I just wanted to chime in here too! I'm attuned to level I and hope to do II & III this year.
I had A LOT of reiki just before my ds was conceived. I have no doubt that it helped. I had a lot of spiritual growth during that time in so many ways. I LOVE reiki...sometimes you can really feel the energy flowing, and sometimes it isn't even noticable. Either way it is helping to rebalance, mind, body and spirit. I *just* got my massage table out last week to give my sister a treatment...I haven't done any reiki for ages....I'm glad I did, dh is lining up for treatments now .

It's good to have a community to talk about this! I find reiki really helpful with my cramps; I should pay attention and see if it affects the other symptoms.

I'm thinking of starting a housecall-based reiki practice. I've started designing letterhead and business cards and I'm thinking about buying a table. Do any of you have a practice? How did you get started?

Hi everyone,

I just learned self-reiki. I really had no idea about attunement, but I definately notice it is even more relaxing than any meditation or Qi gong I've done. The first time I did it I actually felt euphoric a half hour afterwards. It felt almost trance like, because it seemed like it was 5 min., but when I was done, 40 mins. had passed. And I was very sceptical. I did it last night because I was having a bit of insomnia, and it put me to sleep rather quickly. Funny you mention it bringing on AF, because I got AF this morning. I wasn't exactly WANTING AF to come, but here it is!

Last nite I did see "patterns of light" that changed with each chakra, and was thinking to my sceptical self, this is crazy. I admit at times it spooked me a bit.

Wondering if any of you are catholic girls (I'm not practicing, but there are just things ingrained in me) and how you integrate budhism (or the other religious themes related to reiki) with your beliefs?

Hi NYER - although Mikao Usui was a buddhist, he said very clearly that Reiki is not religious, or anything whatsoever to do with religion. Understanding a little about buddhism will help you develop more insight into Reiki. The precepts tie in with some buddhist concepts like mindfulness. But it is not necessary to reconcile Reiki with any religion as Reiki just is part of you anyway!

Leela - I dunno about where you are, but here in the UK it's advisable for anyone setting up as an alternative therapist to have the right insurance - here we can get it by joining the Reiki Association or Federation. You may have similar organisations? They will also often publish guides to setting up business with useful advice for you. I know for the UK ones, they will not accept you if you have been distance attuned, and you have to provide them with copies of your certificates and lineage. But it may be different elsewhere. I don't have a business - use my Reiki on my own family and pets and self! I don't have a business brain, unfortunately! Good luck with it, so exciting!

Hope that helps!

Thanks PollySis for clearing that up. I suppose I really should read a book or two about Reiki!

Hi, Wendy! reiki.org has a good discussion of the reasons why reiki is not in conflict with any religious practice.

Pollysis: yes! Yes, insurance. I know the Canadian association offers insurance, and I'm sure we have something here in the States that offers it, too. Thanks for the reminder. There's a lot to remember, but fortunately I'm not on a strict timetable, so I can take a little time to think things over.

Hey NYER the books I'd recommend are anything by Frans and Bronwen Stiene. They're Aussie Reiki people who really know their stuff! I read a lot of twaddle before I stumbled on their stuff and since I first got into Reiki, and got on a couple of forums, found a lot of other people love their books, too. They write things for non attuned people as well as Reiki people, and are very good at de-mystifying Reiki and clearing it of the new age clutter! If I had to recommend one of their publications to someone just starting out it would be *Reiki Techniques Card Deck: Heal Yourself Intuitively*. It's designed for people who have been attuned/had reiju or those who haven't - and the techniques on each card are really sound.

Here's their website:

http://www.reiki.net.au/copy.asp?id=AboutFransBronwen

Which is full of brilliant info to get you inspired! Check out their podcasts!

Leela, I went and did a look up after I posted and apparently there are 'ordinary' insurers who insure alternative health practitioners with no problem, so you don't have to join a Reiki organisation like I thought! Other practitioners in your state will be able to give you ideas about cost, etc.

Thank you Leela & PollySis. Polly - I'll definately check out the books/publications! LeelaR - I think it's wonderful you're thinking about starting your own practice!!

I realized last night that I did not have any AF cramps at all!! The only time in my life that I did not have cramps was while I was doing acupuncture. And I think that was only one cycle. Amazing!

I have another question for you ladies. Did anyone experience an "emotional healing crisis" of sorts when first starting Reiki? I have also been taking a custom flower essences formula, and I don't know if it's that either because I started reiki & the flower essences around the same time. But I seem to have different past issues popping into my head. Things I thought I had resolved or accepted. For a time I'd wake up in the morning with a fleeting past hurt, sometimes getting quite weepy, and then I'm good for the rest of the day. I'm also suddenly having very vivid, strange dreams, when in the past I'm lucky if I remember my dreams at all.

I have to say I'm so enchanted by this all. I'm sad I didn't discover this years ago. But then I was just so busy to stop & look within. But I do think DH thinks I'm a bit off my rocker with Reiki. I can at least be grateful that Dr. Oz on Oprah has brought acupuncture & Qi Gong to the forefront as a form of legitimate alternative medicine.

LeelaR: I have found most of my alternative medicine practitioners by being redirected by Google to Yellowpages.com. I'm pretty sure you can do a free listing. Another unique way is to create a myspace page, and put some informational articles about Reiki and then use the page to promote your own practice. I've come across alot of altern. med. pages on myspace, and they have quite the following.

LOL NYER My husband thought I was nuts but then when he saw it work with his own eyes, started sidling up and asking if I'd give him Reiki for this or that problem! Our 14 year old has mild autism and other problems that give him lots of aches and pains in his legs - and he gets a lot of benefit from Reiki. The beautiful thing about Reiki is it works whether people believe in it or not - it has no requirement for them to have an opinion! I think the real tester is working with animals though as they obviously know nothing about it yet you can see from their responses, they are getting Reiki. I had one dog who was a Reiki sponge - he'd make a beeline for me if I was Reiki-ing someone else and clamber on my lap. But the dog I have now hates it - she won't come near me if I Reiki. Cats seem to love it.

I met a girl who was a vet nurse who started using Reiki at work and all the vets were as you'd expect, sceptical - til they saw it in action! They saw how she calmed animals with it and especially used it on an animal about to be put to sleep - it had such dramatic effects, that the vets started requesting she always sat in when they put animals down. It got to the point she felt her whole job was being there when animals were put to sleep so she ended up leaving vet nursing. But it's a dramatic example of how powerful Reiki is and how obvious its power can become even to sceptics!
