Hi, I'm new here, and I was disagnos with PCOS in 1995 and taking medication of Spironlactone and Metformin. In the beginning, I was having irregular periods and had a hard time getting pregnant. I have 2 kids, which I'm blessed with. I was wondering....since I'm 41 years old, is there any future risk in having PCOS?? And what can be done to reduce the risks?? I just bought a book called "The Sugar Solution". I'm struggling with my weight. And also, just now, that I have been concern about my period this month.....I notice a change...like spotted and then ended after that. I usually spot a day or two and then have a period....so has anyone experience that?? Am I going thur changes...since I'm in my 40's now??
If you google pcos and go to the woman pcos gov link they were talking about pcos and menapause... I beleive that's where I just saw it. That might help...
Type 2 diabetes and heart disease are major concerns with aging and PCOS. Getting your weight under control is crucial because as you get older it does get harder to lose. A diet controling sugar is a good start. I would recommend the Insulin Resistant diet. There are many women here who are on that. Getting at least 30-60 minutes of excersise is also important, not only for your heart but for your bones.
Don't jump into this head on though, start slowely or you'll get frustrated quickly. This isn't an easy disease.
Good luck, if you have questions ask away or do a search on this website!

i've been diagnosed with pcos since i was 18 and have been on spironlactone eversince, i was very lucky if i saw a period once or twice a year,i'm now 47 and have also been put on metformin and have seen a period every month since being on the meds, every body is different, if its your time to on the change it is your time but the meds don't speed it up i reckon, i'm still going strong
