RL. It sounds like an interesting book. I think I need to look into something like that. I can't seem to eat right. I know I have to come up with a regiment or something but I cant seem to . Let us know if it works for you. I was eating south beach diet meals. They are very good and full of protiens and veggies. No carbs. Now I can't find them at my grocery. Its messing everything up. Anyway welcome to the group!
Wow. My sistahs. I REALLY feel at home now. This site is the answer to my prayers. I was just officially diagnosed July 28, 2008 (two days ago). However, I read about PCOS briefly when I was 15 and believed I had it then. I'm 30 now. My self esteem has never been at an all time high and it just plummeted after years of looking like the over-sized she-wolf from the Black Forest. Once my hair, my crown and glory, started falling out, I was just like oh screw it. I'ma bury my head in the sand and call it quits. I don't have any cycles at all and I just picked up my prescription for Metformin. I'm kinda lost right now, ladies. Lost, confused, scared, fat, frustrated and hairy. I need some friends to help me catch my breath, breathe and get through this HELL.
Hi LovesLady. Yes, the book is called The Insulin Resistance Diet. Google it or look on Amazon.com. It can get a little technical in the beginning, but the rule of thumb is to just keep an eye on the amount of carbohydrates you eat in relation to the amount of protein. I'm not one who really likes to count and measure b/c my life is just too crazy. But the book mentions how you can "eyeball" portion sizes. It seems to be that IR individuals do not have enough protein in their system to handle the carbohydrates when it breaks down in the pancreas. Always eat a protein with your carb and eat at least six times a day to keep the insulin from spiking in your system. That way it will remain balanced and you should feel better. I plan to officially start trying Aug. 1. I hate stating a date out loud b/c I am scared I will fail. But I gotta do something. I'm walking around here looking "permanently pregnant" with NO BABY to show for!! UGH!!!
You may be many states away but you sound like me. Youre being way too hard on yourself. It is nothing that you have done but it is many way that you can make it better. This site is wonderful. Look around on it. It tells many remedies for many things. My hair was falling out too. I remember one time my mother was standing on the patio and I was standing in the yard as she looked down at me she says man you are really balding you need to do something about that before you don't have any hair up there. Before you start to look like (then she started naming bald people). I look at myself everyday. I knew I was balding did she really have to say that. They don't understand what the matter is or what we have to cope with. That is why I am happy with this site. My hair started growing back once I started taking prenatal vitamins and Metformin. It is so thick up there. I love it. Read more on this site . You will see how many people have pcos and how helpful they. It will be able to cope better. Take care!
hey everyone ..just joined ..I'm Guyanese..currently in jersey. Haven't been officially diagnosed...but obgyn suggested I may have it ...didnt perform tests , just told me to read some material she gave me.
I'm 25 ...probs so far irregular periods and unwanted hair ..weight gain which I find to be gradual over the yrs ..but i'm heavier on top.
Are you taking the natural remedies along with taking metformin or any other natural remedies?
Also, I must state that there a lot of dr's who are very non chalant with pcos. They don't tell you anything and just give you a prescription. I am so glad hat by chance I ended up at BLK MALE GYN who explained everything to me, pictures, diagrams, a sonogram (I havent had a regular period in 12 yrs and ive always gone to the gyn and no one not none of them ever explained what was wrong with me. they just said here's a prescription for bcp's)
