The meeting on Saturday went great. Planning another for March, just trying to decide on a location and date. If you're in the Atlanta area and you haven't already, join us on Meetup at www.meetup.com/atlantacysters
We've got several events coming up and would LOVE for you to join us.
@Jddiva: I am actually in the process of getting "Atlanta Cysters" off the ground. It is a support/social/awareness group for those with PCOS and also encourages husbands, fiances, friends, etc (basically anyone who provides support) to be active with the group as well. I have been in touch with several key folks in the Atlanta area and am excited about what's to come. I will certainly keep you posted!
beautyfromwithin...Hey I joined!
Everyone... ok so I went to the Doctor. Yes its official Im 6 weeks in. Geesh I thought this would be the most exciting time of my life. Instead its a bittersweet experience, I now stress about miscarring. I have a crazy fear of miscarriages ever since my mother lost a baby when I was about 9. Anywho I got an ultrasound pic and everything. I'll keep you guys posted!

Thanks so much. I found the site and joined. It seems very promising. They have an event scheduled for this Saturday, although I don't know if I'll be able to make it as I am still recovering from my cyst removal surgery.

Hey ladies,
Just checking in. congratulations JD. Ladies I am glad that you all are meeting and helping each other through difficul times. Do yo thang!
Hello, moved to the atl metro station last year. Glad to see there are some sista's out here. Can you make any recommendations on good REs? I am currently in the process of switching from Dr. Slayden to Dr. Shapiro. I live with my boyfriend and he's been in my life for 14 yrs (not as a boyfriend but as best friends) and I feel like b/c I don't have a ring on my finger or a piece of paper, that I shouldn't be. TTC! I feel like I'm being treated like Octomom!
Its so depressing. How did u get ur men to do the semen analysis?
Hi Adea , Sunny and everyone i may have missed. I know , I know it has been forever since i posted. Guys i have gone thru a break-up and a layoff. Your girl had to deal with her feelings. But i'm better and i'm back. I really missed you guys. Well i gotta go .. I will chat with you ladies later.
MSTee, yes ma'am you are definitely dealing with lots of issues right now. Don't let it get you too far down. I know things will get better.
Victoryismine, I have lived withmy bfs on numerous occassions and it is very difficult to make it work without that definite paper and ring. I do feel like it helps you grow accustom to who you are dealing with. Maybe you can love someone from afar but not under the same roof. Living together helps you prove that. As far as semen analysis my bf was dead set against masterbating but he knew it was a great cause and he knew how bad I wanted it. I did get myself throughly tested before we did anything to him especially since it was something he didn't want to do. It was me so he didn't have to "perform" in a bottle. basically, If he knows how much this means to you he will do it.
Thanks for the words of encouragement! My LH (like husband) or BF (boyfriend) knows its me and that's why he has refused the semen analysis. We have had many arguments over this. So I've just dropped it. Its hard enough dealing with the fertility issues and my insensitive doctor.
I finally made the decision to switch RE. He just made me feel bad everytime I saw him or spoke to his someone in his office. I just moved to Atlanta from the VA/DC/MD area and felt that my race played a part in him treating me that way. To me, he was more focused on making me aware of the cost of fertility treatments, the cost of raising a baby alone if my LH bails, the consequences of not having a Seman analysis. All things I'm fully aware of. I know part of it was him doing his job. But he seemed to stress the financial stuff. I finally had to sternly remind him that I am also a healthcare professional, have done my research and planning, and fully capable of financially taking care of a child if needed to. Black women have been doing it for years w/o federal assistance. I left out of there feeling like Octomom!
@maybebaby80...I did 2 cycles of Clomid and 2 cycles of Femara (neither worked for me). The plus side (if there is one) to Femara is that you don't have the mood swings like you do on Clomid. My insurance company paid for Femara (because it's not for fertility) but not Clomid, although the generic Clomid was only $18. Femara is not a fertility drug persay. It's for post-menapausal breast cancer survivors I think. Considering that I'm neither post-menapausal nor a breast cancer survivor, I didn't want to take it again. Not sure of the long term effects. Hope this helps some.
@victoryismine...there is a way to do a Semen Analysis (SA) that he may comply with. Last year when me and my DH were going through the unending testing, our RE said that for the SA we could have sex (with a condom, if i remember correctly), put the condom in their lab cup and bring it to their office within the hour. Basically while it's still warm. That was at the Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine. I am no longer going there as their approach to me was "loose 50lbs and come back to see us". I am now awating my appointment at Emory Reproductive Center. That's at the end of the month.
Hopefully this will be a solution your LH can agree to.

Thanks everyone. Who was your doctor @ Atlanta Medical Center? Was it Dr. Peorle? Lose 50 lbs huh? I hate when MD's say that cuz if it was that easy, then it would be done even if we weren't ttc! Don't they know that difficulty w/ weight loss is part of PCOS? I wanna scream everytime I hear that... Hell no, I don't wanna be this big!! My friends knew not to talk about my weight!
The difficulty w/ weight loss was the red flag for me. I'm a healthcare professional and had tried every diet known to man and never lost an ounce. Kept telling doctors that metabolism was not right. I would work out 6-7 days a week and starve myself and nothing!!! My doc didn't want to put me on diet pills cause she was a lil more conservative but I did ask her for 180mg of ibuprofen cause the period cramps were unbearable and that's when she asked me to do an U/S.
Its a double edge sword cause excessive working out isn't good for concieving so I have tried to cut back on working out but I've gained some of the weight I recently loss. The fact that going thru assisted reproductive meds w/the moodiness doesn't help cause I crave the sweets and carbs (another part of PCOS)
Ugh!!!
Let me know how the Emory thing goes? I was seeing Dr. Slayden @ Reproductive Biology Assoc...but wasn't feeling his staff. It was like trying to speak to him or see him is like trying to speak to the Pres of USA. Then they would get smart w/me when asking when my LH (like husband) would do the S/A. I just didn't like the vibe. At first, they wouldn't even set up an appt b/c of it. Then they treated me like Octomom cuz I wasn't married. Fertility treatments are too expensive to be treated as second class citizen!
I switched Docs but stayed w/them b/c after lots of research, they are the best in Atlanta. They come recommended by all the docs in atlanta. And they started it in atl.
My co-worker was referred to them by her dad (who happens to be an MD) b/c she had some special kind of cancer that caused her hormone to be wacked & had 2 have a piece of her brain that controls your hormones and period removed. She hadn't had a period in yrs. She had a team of specialist and after the surgery they recommended Reproductive Biology. She had an HSG and concieved the next day!! So there is hope.
At the time, I didn't know what HSG was or who they were. After I did my own research and attending there, that's when I found out she went there to.
