I haven't watched that show in forever but that used to be my show lol
HI ALL!
Tiki, I noticed in your signature that you are on YAZ and met? My GYN just Rx'd YAZ and have been reluctant to take it. Also, I think my endo will put me back on Met this week...
Do you care to share your experience with the two?? I have heard mixed stories about Yaz. As we know everyone is different, so I decided to give it a shot anyway...
Well when I first started on met in August 2007 I always had terrible cramps. I was just a mess when I first started on it. My supervisor would send me home and I had to send myself home a couple times. I think I used to take midol with it and that would help a little. The YAZ is okay. My issue was AF wouldn't go away. It went on for about 2 months straight(light spotting). I saw one dr and she told me since i had recently stopped taking birth control maybe my body was just trying to get back on track. Then I went to my current obgyn and he told me I had PCOS and put me on the YAZ, since I've been on YAZ AF comes like clockwork, much lighter and with little, if any, cramping. I went off for a week in August 2008 because i was going on vacation and the pharmacy didnt have my perscription ready ( i hate that) so i just left without it. I was fearful that i would start spotting again and it wouldn't stop but I was fine, nothing happened so I figure the meds must be doing something. The terrible pains and cramping from the Met went away after a month or two maybe. The only issue I have with all this medication is that I'm 24 taking a million pills a day!! I even have the little pill box with the M T W Th F on it so I can remember to take them all (which i still dont). The other downfall is that once i started on the meds i gained 20 lbs and have not been able to get it off. My eating habits are okay, and I try to be conscious of what i eat and how much but I hardly ever excercise. I had maintained my weight for years then all of a sudden i was up 20lbs! I'm not trying to conceive at the moment or anything, no man lol. I've been reading through the site for everyone's experience with natural meds. My main issues are hirsutism and insulin resistance. I'm considering laser ASAP since I've read many sisters have had good results with that and just sticking with the Met and Yaz as well as One a day or Whole Food Supplement (which tastes like liquid grass lol), and considering trying Saw Palmetto until i can get the laser. I know I went on and on, but I'm bored at work lol. Hope that helps.

I noticed that it seems as if you have a GNY and endo. I was diagnosed in August 2007 but I have not been doing much research until late last year. I noticed some women have an endo. Do you (any of you ladies) recommend an endo over a GYN to deal with PCOS issues? I checked my health insurance website for endos but haven't gone to any because my GYN has been dealing with my PCOS.

I never made it to an endo, but was blessed to find a competent GYN who was very knowledgeable of PCOS. I also think it's sometimes hard to find a "good" endo depending on what you want - a reproductive endo will know more about infertility and PCOS and all things hormonal dealing with the reproductive system...but may not want to treat you if you aren't trying to get knocked up - KWIM? They are used to people coming in who want to get pregnant NOW...so if you want to just get control of your PCOS symptoms but not looking to get pregnant they may be a bit confused as that's out of what they normally do.

Hi all,
Just to clarify, my endo is also a PCP (Primary care physician) That's why I chose her; to kill two birds with one stone. She has stressed diet and exercise as a rememdy for PCOS.
My problem is that sometimes I want the instant pill or the magic jeanie in a bottle! LOL!

Oh okay thanks. LOL @ magic jeanie. I WISH I had one of those. I know I'm lazy with exercise so i'll at least try to park far away from entrances and walk more throughout the day and cross my fingers that that's at least helping a little lol. When you find that instant pill girl let me know cause I could you that lol.

Tiki - There are some Reproductive Endo's with a specialty in treating women with PCOS. With many RE's, you have to tell them how aggressive you want to be in becoming pregnant. My current RE is aggressive, and that's what I wanted, but he also specializes in PCOS and knows many of the treatments for it. When I'm not TTC, I do have an endo that I see regularly who takes my bloodwork and monitors everything in conjunction with my PCP. He also sent me to a nutrionist who helped me in developing a menu to help with controlling weight, etc. HTH

I personally had to go to an endo just to get diagnosed with pcos. My gyn is horrible. I'm scared to go back. And i need to find a gyn fast. But yeah the endo i was blessed with Listened and checked everything.
Hey Ladies,
I have been sneaking around here for awhile. I started 2000 mg of glucohage last week and Provera today. I pray that all goes well and that I lose some of this weight! Good Luck ladies!!!

HA HA HAA!!! Girl me too! Only I was too embarrassed to do the pill boxes, so I write it down in a notebook! LOL. I had 1 to take 3 times a day, 1 during meals, 1 in between...I would get confused over medications! I'm considering getting the laser done this summer. Are you only having 1 cyst removed? I had multiple cysts & surgery.... Also, I see you are in MD/DC area - I'm in Richmond! So we're close by! I was originally treated by a gyno & have been to 6 or 7 others & recently had an appt w/ an reproductive endocrinologist & have another appt w/ a diff RE tomorrow. (I am not TTC either).
The first RE initially wanted to put me on BCPs but I told him what I wanted & he was willing to do it. But I still want to see what this 2nd one will say & then pick which I think will give me better treatment (overall). Knowledgeable gyno's can treat PCOS just as well, do all the bloodwork, any surgeries & even some infertility treatments. But it can be hard to find good ones or ones KNOWLEDGEABLE enough. And for the MOST part, I have found that I have to stay on my toes w/ research & bloodwork & tests & then push the Dr. to provide multiple treatment options or choices.
serra_angel - glad u enjoyed yourself...had no idea u could just stop & get your hair braided on the islands, makes sense though. lol
blackberries225 - Hi! just saw u on another thread the "L" one...

Yea I work in Alexandria, VA but I live in MD and its snowing right now. I travel for work and was out of town for the snow last week so this is my first time this year seeing a significant amount of snow here. MY GYN diagnosed me and is just pretty straight forward about everything and he's the one removing the cyst. Its just one but its so big (17 cm I think) that he wants to remove it before it moves or twists and damages my ovary. He seems knowledgeable and advises me to do research and ask questions etc. I usually see him about every 4 months and its seems like he does bloodwork everytime to make sure everything's okay. But I don't have a PCP so if can find an endo that is also a PCP that would be great.
So you are not on BCP? I don't like BCP, never have, simply because I just don't like adding foreign things (hormones) to my body but my GYN put me on YAZ because he says it has hormones in it that will help with the PCOS and they're supposed to help a little with the hirsutism. But i've had the hirsutism issue since puberty, that just runs in my family. Everybody else just has like 5 hairs though. I hate it. If I didn't have to put money aside to pay my deductible and my portion of my medical bills after the surgery I would definitely be focused on saving for laser. I found this place in Alexandria that seems really good. They use a laser that is supposed to work great on dark skin. I see you are on various meds, what are they all for if i may ask?
Welcome Ladies!!!

"my GYN put me on YAZ because he says it has hormones in it that will help with the PCOS and they're supposed to help a little with the hirsutism." Tiki06
Hi all!
I just started YAZ a few days ago and I already noticed that my facial hair has slowed down significantly. My gyn also claimed that YAZ is for PCOS and the horrors of hirsutism...So far there is no dark shadow, prickly hair coming back before noon, or the shadow that happens before 5 o'clock...yeah I got it bad!
They also do laser at my GYN's office and she said that the best laser is the IPL or intense pulsed light laser. It apparently works on all skin types and hair colors; blond, grey, red, or course black hair. I have a consultation this weekend. I will also inquire about having my insurance cover the cost; it has happened for some cysters...there is a thread on SC about that...I'll see of I can find it for us.
So far YAZ has put me in a good mood; I wish that this could continue even when I stop the pill. But I am prepared to go a little haywire once I stop. But I plan on making this work by trying to lose weight and balancing my own hormones and IR. Also, my skin isnt oily. Normally by 9:30 I am wiping my face down and people are looking at me like I am nuts because I'm so shiny!
Yea I actually think YAZ is good. I just have to become more disciplined with working out and eating right. When AF comes I just eat anything, i just made some cupcakes last nightlol. I had enough will power to give most of them away though lol. If you could find the thread on having your insurance cover the laser that would be great! The place I found uses a laser called GentleLase. Its supposed to be great for all skin types. It uses pulsed light and has some kind of cooling mechanism for comfort.
