Any Suggestions?

Hi i am 22 years old, and last year (Jan 2007) i was told i had PCOS, i had already looked up and researched all about it so i knew about everything the doctor was telling me. She ended up putting me on Birth Control Pill (Ortho-Tri-Cyclen) which made me sick. Before taking the BCP i had never had a period (that i could remember anyways). Of course the BCP made me have "fake AF's" .

So now i am off of BCP's and hoping to get pregnant. My doctors look at me like im stupid when i tell them i want to have a baby.

I am starting Metformin soon, and was hoping you gals can help me with a few questions about herbal remedies while taking Metformin.

I was doing some research a few mins ago and found out about Vitex. Since i've only had my "AF" when i was on BCP's do you think Metformin + Vitex is good for me? I know alot of you have had great things to say about both of them, but what about using them at the same time? Also i'd be buying me some Vitman B as i know Metformin can decrease b12. Any other suggestions, as my DR doesn't talk much about fertility things to me as she doesn't think i should have a baby (i dont know if its my age or what but it really got me "P.O")

I am new to this site and hope you gals can help me out. I will continue to read up on other posts for maybe some info i missed! You all seem so nice! Thanks and any suggestions will be helpful!

Wow, what an insensitive doctor! Maybe you should see a different one?
I'm starting vitex tomorrow, I've heard good things about it regulating AF. I also don't have AF on my own, and was also put on BCP temporarily to fix that!
Also, when I was on BCP before with no problems, but this time around it made me sicker than a grass eating dog! I mean, bleh.

And I also know what you mean by people looking at you in that way when you say you want to TTC. Even if I just go to the library it's bad. I read often, and if something's wrong with me I make sure I know what's going on, I like researching. So, I check out PCOS books, and infertility books, etc... the librarians that check me out at circulation always give me dirty disapproving looks! I don't know if it's my college attire, my age, or my weight, or what... but I chose to just go with it's their stupidity and prejudice

Find a new doctor eventually, one that cares about what YOU want for yourself.

About taking met. with vit., I'm not sure. I want to say yes, but I can't because I'm not 100% positive.
I will say that some ladies on here start getting regular AF simply by starting met. though.

Thanks for the fast reply! I'll try to read up more about Vitex and Met. Some people say it makes Met s/e's worse and some say it doesnt effect them in a neg way at all. It probably varies from each person. Let me know how the "Natural" way goes and i may try that! (i hate taking pills!) lol. You can get Vitex in liquid form can't you? (hope so! i'll look around, as i also like researching hehe) Thanks again!

Oh! and you gave me an idea that i haven't even thought about! *facepalm* I may be making a trip to the library tomorrow. hehe.

**Had to edit again** I just wanted to add some more info about me so that readers that may be/have been around my weight and problems can share their success stories or what has been helping them, with me, thanks!

Weight: 166lbs (i know i need to lose some but i can't seem to!)
Problems my doctor has told me i have: A Elevated amount of testosterone, and absent periods (hopefully she didnt miss anything)

I would encourage you to find either a new doctor or an herbalist. Your doctor sounds like a total biatch! How rude of her to act the way she does. I am taking Vitex, and I have had two 28 day cycles since starting it. However, I am not on metformin; i am doing cinnamon with chromium and a few other herbs as well.

I recently bought Vitex from Puritan's Pride, in capsule form (because i cant swallow pills) and so i opened it up like it says i can do and put it all in some cold water, tried drinking it.. ugh!!!! tried with pepsi... and now i just feel sick, anything i can put it in that doesn't taste so gross? if not, i dont know what to try next. lol but i cant continue taking it like this! ewwww!

That sucks that you can't take it in capsules. I always take things in pill form because I have a "nasty taste gag reflex". If my body says it's yucky, it will not go down to save my life.

Maybe in a strong juice? Or mix it in a hot tea?
Or try holding your nose and just downing it. Put it in a small amount of liquid and toss 'er down.

I am really not sure.

I put it in Orange Juice and didnt taste it at all! now i just hope Vitex works good with me. How is Vitex working with you so far?

I'm glad taking it in juice worked for you!

I've only been taking it about a week and a half I think...
No adverse side effects.

Some people swear by it, other's say it didn't work.
I hope it works for both of us!

Just curious about you're doing Anotherdreamer, any success yet? I am taking metformin now, vitex didn't help, i am going to MAYBE combine the two, and see how it goes.

I have only one ovary, have had only 2 pregnancies ever (1 of which was 10 years ago). I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes a little over a year ago. I have taken everything. I recently finally ovulated and got pregnant taking 150mg vit B6, 1500mg vit C with bioflavaniods, flaxseed oil, prenatal vit, metformin, and robitussin. After my first child my first husband and I tried for three years to get pregnant and my current husband and I have been trying for a year now with only one successful pregnancy which unfortunately ended in m/c at 5 weeks. I have decided to up the process by taking soy a couple of cycles and see if this helps in another sticky pregnancy. I have never offically been diagnosed with PCOS but have been symptomatic since I was 9. I had a large dermoid tumor removed with my right ovary at that time and the doctors told my mother I had several other fluid filled cysts already on my other ovary. Four years later and another surgery reveiled the same thing more cysts were removed but they spared my ovary. Now I just want to have one more child before I have to have my only ovary removed. There are lots of herbs which will help, but you have to determine what is causing your infertility to find the right ones :-)

Angelyca: After stopping BCP and trying the herbs and such I actually managed to Ov for the first time in a year and a half (On CD44, no less), and got a BFP. Unfortunately I miscarried, but it did give me hope. In light of that happening I decided to just have the doctor put me on Clomid, instead of waiting for it to happen on it's own again.

So, I mean, I did Ov, but if it was because of the Vitex, or the Cinnamon, or the Flaxseed Oil, or because I just went off BCP... I will never be sure. Maybe it was the combination. But I did Ov, so that is something.
