Question Is any thin cyster has metformin worked with the symptoms like me

Hi,

I was newly diagnosed with PCOS last month after going through 2 months of clomid dosage (50mg and 100 mg). On 2nd month, ultrasound revealed the cysts on the ovaries and my Gynecologist has prescribed met. Initially she didn't believe i have PCOS because i am thin. I started metformin 3 weeks ago and this week i am on dosage (3 tablets a day 1500 mg). Next week i will up my dosage to 2000 mg (4 tablets a day). I asked the doctor whether she wants to test me for IR. She said there is no accurate test for it and she said we can't conclude for sure that one has IR. The rest of the blood work she said was normal except the ratio of LH/FSH and the testosterone are little high. Please let me know if anyone had the similar problems and met had worked for them. (Thanks for looking into it)

Never had periods on my own. I have to take provera to get my periods. (The strange thing is even if i take one tablet of provera, without completing the full dose, i get my periods after a week or so.

Failed Clomid dosage (50 mg and 100 mg) (No ovulation on clomid. Cysts appeared on ultrasound on the second month of Clomid).

On met, recently i am having extreme hunger. Not much of the side effects, except little diarea on one day.

I noticed facial hair growth has been reduced after taking Met for 3 weeks. Does it mean that met is working? I don't have any side effects which stops me from going to work and do my regular things.

My testosterone level before taking met was 81.

Height: 5'4'', 124 pounds
Age:29. DH:32
Married 04/30/99.
TTC for 2 years

Failed clomid (50 mg and 100 mg) (No ovulation)

Started met on 11/11/02. (I am on met for 3 weeks.)

Thank you and i appreciate your help.

Yep, I could have written your post myself! I have the exact same thing. I'm currently taking met and have noticed a big difference in the way I feel---as for the extreme hunger, be sure to eat. Don't low carb. The hair I have jas decreased ina big way and Ive had few side effects. My periods still haven't regulated, howeever and I am still ttc with fertility drugs. I'm currently in the 2ww thanks to injectable meds. I don't respond to clomid either.

Default metformin

Hi girls!
I am also very thin,I`m not on any medications yet because the doctors can`t find whats wrong with me.
Did your test results show some abnormalities? Did you take your test on cd3,I didn`t! Maby thats why they can`t tell whats wrong?
What kind of hairgrowth do you girls have? coarse or fine?
Where did metformin decreased the hair?
Do you have any hairloss? and if you do,did it improve with metformin?
Sorry, many questions at once, but I am so frustrated that the doctors dont think I have pcos because I`m thin!

Hugs to you all!

I've been on 500 mg of metformin for the last 4 months. I've O'd on my own since then but I don't know if it's that or the synthroid I was put on a month earlier. I did O on my own before that (but not as frequently). I wonder if I need a little more met even with the results I've had, because I am still unable to lose the weight I've gained since stopping BCPs even though I'm eating the same and exercising more.

My GTT was normal but my Free Testosterone was slightly elevated.

Thanks, girls for the replies.

As i am taking metformin for the last 3 weeks, (This is my third week), i have also take provera last week. Doctor has prescribed to induce period. Usually after i complete provera for 5 days, i get my periods after 5 or 6 days. This time, i got my period after 3 days. Looks like metformin is doing something. I am not taking any other medication besides metformin. Facial hair growth, which is coarse has been reduced with metformin. I am feeling better than before with my energy levels. I used to get tired soon before taking met. I will have to wait for the next cycle to see what met has done to me. I have some questions like should i continue with metformin if my periods don't get regulated or is met going to take couple of months to work? If anyone can give me suggestions, that will be great.

What is 2 ww mean? I was reading the post, i didn't understand what it was. Thanks.

Good luck of all of you and may god bless you with a child soon.

Hi,

I am taking 1500 mg of met and got pregnant on that and a low carb diet. I had lack of appetite though and ended up losing 16 lbs before getting pregnant, getting down to 109 lbs at 5'5". I think all of my lab work came back normal and my doctor felt teh same way about IR testing and that it wasn't reliable. But I did shwo cysts on my ovaries. BUt, it has worked for me. After 3.5 months of treatment I got pregnant. I am now almost 4 months pregnant and still taking met. My periods came about every 40-50 days with the met. Good luck to you.

I'm almost exactly your profile - thin, only abnormal tests are reversed LH/FSH and slightly high testosterone. I haven't taken met yet, but your story makes me think it might be worth a try. I may try N-aceytl-cysteine first, since its supposed to work similar to met. Thanks for sharing! And keep us posted.

Hi,
I don't really consider myself thin...probably average...5'9" and 140 lbs.I have been on metformin 1000 mg for 3 months now...I didn't notice any reduction in hair growth since on it...but it has done wonders at regulating my cycle.I have been taking aldactone since april of this year and my periods were coming every 15-18 days! Now with the met,I have af exactly every32-33 days.I was having af on my own maube 6-8 times a year before the meds.I am ttc without fertility drugs....4 months now....I am hoping that the met will make me ovulate.Don't know if my cycles are ovulatory or not.We have agreed to seek help after a year.I do try to reduce my carb intake but it's hard....I LOVE CHOCOLATE!I rty to do some muscle toning exercises and I do a lot of walking at work....keeps me trim.Oh and water,water,water....Good luck.Soya.

Default metformin

Hi, I have very mild PCOS symtpoms--mild acne, cysts, and elevated testosterone levels, low progesterone (but O and getting AF regularly). Just started metformin today. TTC without fertility drugs right now.

Just wondering...will metformin actually reduce the number of cysts on my ovaries???

Best of luck to all of you!

HI,

I don't know if the met has reduced the cysts, but I am having an ultrasound next week. It will be 20 weeks and I will be able to find out if we're having a boy or girl. I will ask if she can tell if I still have cysts.

Also, is there a glossary of abbreviations on this site somewhere? I just can't figure out what a lot of people are writing about!!! For instance.. what is dh ( iknow it has something to do with husband but what exactly?), what is ww, af, and any other weird abbreviation you can think of!

Thanks for your help!

How exciting to find out if you are having a boy or girl. Please keep us posted!

Look under the message board for new soulcysters and there is a list of all the abbreviations.

HI,

Well, we found out we are having a girl, but I wasn't able to get a good answer for you about the cysts. She said that they usually can't see them at this stage of pregnancy. I don't know if that means they aren't there, or if they just can't be seen. She is just my regular obgyn not my fertilty specialist. Sorry I couldn't help much more than that. Good luck.

Trishna, congrats !!! I think Met would have worked for you in clearing the cysts. I am taking met for about 35 days. I was feeling like i am about to get AF, but no AF has come so far. I don't know whether it is working or not. I am waiting to see if it does something.

Thumbs up I think met worked for me...

I tried so many things over the last year or so with the fertility clinic, it's hard to say whether met worked for me. I was diagnosed with PCOS last January, based mostly on my anovulation and high LH/FSH ratio. I was on clomid for awhile, but became resistant. I talked my doc into letting me try met, and it seemed like it was working...sort of (was developing eggs, but wasn't releasing). We added clomid back in, and that worked, but we were still not conceiving. Cycles were running long and were not predictable enough to do IUIs at the right time, so we added and HCG shot to the mix. I did that combo of stuff for two cycles, and voila! We are PG!

I should say that I was also going in for acupuncture for 4-5 months as well, so between the clomid, met, HCG, IUIs and acupuncture, who knows what did the trick? I do think met was an important part of the puzzle, since I was clomid resistant before starting the met, but the clomid "worked" in combo with the met.

Good luck -- there's no one perfect treatment for every cyster, so you've gotta keep your options open!

Took Clomid with Met for two more cycles -- grew two nice fat follies during last cycle! 4 mg/day of Estradiol from CD 11 to fatten the lining. Ovidrel to induce ovulation, and IUI on 9/17/02. Took progesterone supplements for two months after IUI. No longer on met.

Success! Positive HPT on 9/29/02! EDD 6/11/03!
