I was diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago. I weighed around 135 pounds at the time. I dieted and exercised my way down to 132 (which was hard work seeing that it was only 3 pounds!) and was very very happy. DH and I went on vacation last week, and now that I'm back I weigh 138! I feel awful. I had ovulated before we left on vacation and the Met ER was doing funny things to my heart so my doctor told me to discontinue it for the time being. AF arrived on 7/7 and I started taking the Met again a few days ago.
My question is, are any of the rest of you thin cysters gaining weight? Has anyone ever gone from a thin cyster to a "fluffy" one? Do you diet to keep your weight in check?

I have had a similar experience. I was on BCP for 8 years, the whole time not knowing I had PCOS. While on the pill I maintained around 130-134. I did not have to worry about what I ate or anything. Weight was not really an issue. Once I went off BCP I started to gain weight. I gained about 10 lbs. in 6 mths. I was very frustrated about it. I talked to my naturopath about my diet and she told me to try to have more fruits and veggies and less carbs. Since I have been doing that my weight has stayed somewhat the same and now that I am exercising again I have been able to drop a lbs or two. But the minute I stray the lbs. come back
I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 years ago. I was underweight at the time and couldn't gain a pound regardless of how hard I tried! In the 3 years since, I've added 25+ pounds. Now, I'd like to lose about 10; although, I still fall within the weight range for my height. Sadly, the pounds I have added have just nearly all landed in my middle.

I think there are several types of thin cysters:
The ones that struggle to maintain weight and have to work hard to gain anything.
The ones that just happen to be a "normal" weight, and are able to maintain it without much effory.
The ones that are at a "normal" weight and have to work hard to keep it that way because they gain weight very easily due to insulin resistence or other factors (and I am one of them).
I think the insuling resistence and thyroids have a lot to do with our constant warfare with weight. So it depends on body type and symptoms how itall works for you.
I have a really hard time loosing weight. I can eat a low carb meal all times of teh day and eat one hershey's kiss and gain a pound. The next day I eat teh same food minus the kiss and loose a pound. Or drink a glass of juice or soda and boom another pound gained.
I think the BCPs and Met also make it harder to stay where you are. So I can totally empathize with your struggle to keep the weight off.
I am new to this site but not to PCOS.I have always been a thin cyster until I settled down and got married.I put on 10 to 15 pounds fast!I now weigh 125 at 4 feet and 11 inches tall.I CANNOT gain anymore weight. My weight gain is mostly top weight too!

Hi Stephanie, you sound like me. I've always been thin, but PCOS has gradually put some pounds on. I'm still completely normal/average weight, but I am definitely at the max of what I'm comfortable with. In fact, I wouldn't mind shedding about 10 pounds, all of which are centered in my stomach, thighs & behind!

Hi,
When I first went off bcp a couple of years ago I didn't have a period and gained at least 15 pounds over the course of a year. When I was finally diagnosed with PCOS I went back on bcp and started to watch the carbs. I was able to drop the weight and now I eat a pretty balanced diet with moderate exercise. I am very worried about going off bcp's but I know I can't stay on them forever...
