Hi! I'm new here and just beginning my research on what to do about my PCOS. I was on the pill for many years and have not really dealth with it. Now I'm off the pill with an eye to TTC in a few months. I've read many women's success with acheiving cycles with low-carbing (Atkins or other diet) but those have mainly been our Cysters with extra weight.Have any of you had any success with the diet? I don't test insulin resistant, but I've also read that doesn't matter, there may still be some sort of insulin glitch happening.

I've been doing a variety of things. Low carbing is one of them. I don't follow a specific diet though.
Initially I went to see a dietician who put me on a low carb low fat diet, but If I am hungry and have to make a snack I'll opt for a low carb one, even if it is higher in fat.
I've cut out all simple sugars, and refined complex carbs.
I think the most important part is to eat 6 meals a day and never skip breakfast or the late night snack (about an hour before bed time). I try to keep a 90 minute interval between meals.
Next time I'm abroad, I plan to park myself at a bookstore in order to make comparisons between "The Zone" and "The IR Diet" and choose the one I can live with.
I also do Yoga, Acupuncture and Herbs. I don't know what brought on the ovulation, but DH thinks it's the low carbing (I have had two cycles since starting the diet).
Sorry this is so long,
HTH

Thanks for your response. I've decided to include low-carbing as part of my get-healthy regimen, which is also including herbs and yoga, just like you! I'm already feeling a bit more clear headed (pizza and cereals were a big part of my diet). I don't know what will happen, but it can only help us to be in the best all-around health as possible.
PS I just love the international aspect of this website. It's so great to read posts and correspond with cysters from Israel, UK, Brazil, Korea, even Estonia!
I had a terrible time with low carb. I was always a yo-yo dierer with my weight. (Now I wonder how much of it was the PCOS). About 3 years ago, I went on Atkins to lose about 25 lbs. Not only did I not lose weight but I also had horrible mood swings and my sugar seemed to be worse. In October 2000 I went on Weight Watchers which balances carbs and protien and I got down to the weight I am now (I've been maintaing for about a year). I feel this is the healthiest I've ever eaten.
A diet change was the first thing I tried since I figured I ought to be eating better anyway since I wanted to get PG. I had been eating tons of bread and pasta and not much else. It alone didn't bring my AF's back, the addition of vitex did that for me although I only low carbed for a month before trying the vitex. It did however have a profound effect on how I felt physically and emotionally. I has so much energy and little things didn't get to me anymore. I'm not as strict now, but I still watch my carbs. If I start feeling overwhelmed easily or lethargic I cut more carbs and feel better. Garbage in, garbage out.
