I am new to this site, and very happy to find it. I was diagnosed in 2002, after stopping the pill and having 1 normal AF, then 6 months without. My gyno did some lab tests and found my hypothyroidism, as well as a wacked out LH/FSH ratio. She sent me for an ultrasound and my ovaries are packed with cysts, thus the diagnosis. However, I have no IR, no excess hair anywhere, no acne, I'm thin, etc. I guess the diagnosis is correct, but is anyone else out there in the same boat? I'm back on BCPs to have cycles, but will go off soon to ttc. Up until 2002 I always had normal cycles, both on and off BCPs. Any advice is appreciated...

I am also a thin cyster with no other symptoms besides the typical string of pearls on my ovaries and an LH:FSH ratio of 2:1. Oh yeah .... and I have had irregular periods all my life.

I think you are talking about me! I, too, am thin with few symptoms. Ever since I was 16, if I'm not on the pill I tend to HAVE my period all the time. I sometimes wish I was on the side of NOT having it! When I was younger, the dr just thought it was because I was young, and put me on BCP. When I was 22, I decided I was tired of them, went off, and went back to having my period all the time. I had bloodwork done, and it doesn't seem I ovulate, and my progesterone is really low. My ultra sound didn't show cysts, but lots of follies. I feel like I'm a wierd case. But no, no other symptoms. I, too, want to TTC- just waiting for the hubby! Good luck! Hopefully it will happen fast for us!

Hi I do have some symptoms (a little hair and some acne) but I am also thin but I wanted to tell you for when you do ttc. My ob said that Metformin can help people ovulate even who are not IR so if Clomid (or nothing) doesn't work for you, you may still want to try it. It worked for me!

Ditto here. No weight problems. As a teen I had spotty periods but they were on a monthly schedule. 10 years of bcp and no hint of issues. After going off bcp, mild acne on face, neck, shoulders and back. I was temping and my temps were all over the place. Then Dr. diagnosed PCOS with 3/1 FHS/LH. I dont think I have huge strings but I do have some cysts.
Reducing my carb intake has regulated my temps but I hope my next appt results in a prescrip for met. Dr. has discussed this as an option but we explored other options first.
Although weight-loss was not a goal, reduction in carb intake resulted in a modest 8-10 lb loss which keeps me well within healthy. I also notice fewer 'carb downers' and naps are only tempting if I overload on a med-high carb lunch. HUGE bonus: acne is also very minimal and I found milk agravates my acne. ... no more lattes

Thanks for all the replies. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I plan to make an appointment with an RE soon and will ask about metformin. I'm scared of the side effects people talk about, though. Should I go on met only when I want to ttc or should I start in advance to see if it helps me cycle?

Same boat but basically have had facial hair my whole life but no acne. Personally if I knew what i know now I would have been put on Metformin from the beginning even b4 TTC. Just cause I would not be in the position I am now of trying a bunch of stuff and now waiting for Met to work, when I wanted a baby 2 yrs ago.
