any way to adopt when married less than two years?
My husband and I have been married less than a year, and as I'm older, I don't really want to wait any longer than we have to to adopt. Are there any agencies that don't have the two-year marriage requirement, or any other way to get around that -- by adopting some other way or something?

Wow, I didnt even know there was a two year rule. DH and I have been married just over a year, and after 2 m/c are considering adoption. Is that an US or international rule?
Thanks Kati for asking that question!

I think it depends on the country for the most part. So I know for the Philippines there is a 3 yr requirement, or 5 if there's been a divorce, but I don't THINK there's a requirement for Guatemala, for example.

It seems to be an agency rule sometimes, a country rule sometimes, from what I can gather. DH and I talked some more tonight and we are back to thinking adoption may be the best route to go, so I'm trying to figure out what our options are. I did quite a bit of research several months ago but things have changed even since then, it seems!

I don't know. I just want something that isn't TOO expensive and gets us as young a baby as possible, a girl if at all possible, and as SOON as possible... I don't want to be too old when we finally get to be parents and I'm already most of the way to "too old"!

Believe me, you're definately not old (@ 27 I thought I was old too but @ 30 I'm feeling ancient lately!)
I really think it's agency by agency for domestic. You could check w/ your state and do a foster/adopt which wouldn't be very expensive at all. Unfortunately, I think each state is different and each agency can be different. Some countries have age/marriage requirements. You could go to www.adoption.com to check out every country imaginable if you don't want to adopt domestically.
Good Luck!

I would say check out different agencies... including domestic ones. You might be able to start the paper work, but not finish the homestudy until you've been married two year! But hey the more you can get out of the way now the better!
We looked into Russia briefly. There are some cysters here that have adopted from Russia (I think) I may be thinking of Fertile Thoughts. There are alot of great countries to adopt from I know Russia is one of the more expensive ones (hence our decision to adopt from Ukraine).
There is lots of basic info on the countries from different agencies. Good luck baby hunting !
Its alot of info but alot of fun to finally narrow down your choices

its a 'married 2 year' rule in the UK if you want to adopt a baby under 2 years old. I looked into it last year and was also told that we would need to be married too. This pissed me off because we've been together for years and a wedding cert doesn't make us any more committed

Couples can adopt from our Guatemala program if they have been married for a
year. Depending on how close you are to that year, you could go ahead and
start the paperwork for the process.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

Woohoo! Now if it just isn't *too* expensive. Guatemala has been really high everywhere I looked, but I guess we can start saving our pennies.
