well....i was instructed to start at 2000 e pills at night 2 pills in the am. we are going out of town this weekend so most likely will start on Monday (i'm off from work that day as well).
My experience on met ER has been really good. I have lost over 20 pounds in about 3 months and I don't have that many side effects as long as I eat properly. I would encourage you to double check with your doctor regarding the dosage. I was at 500mg for one week and then I added 500mg each week until I reached the 2000mg. Good luck!

My dr. put me at 2000mg. xr right away. 2 at night and 2 in the morning. I haven't had any bad side effects and I think it has helped me. I have lost about 10 ponds in 2 months. I have been on it since March 17th. I'm also going to start my second round of prometrium next Thursday to induce af as well.

Purple- If you experience any gastric side effects, back off the full dosage and work up to the full dose gradually. I take 2000mg daily, and I started out with one pill a day (1000mg) and gradually worked up when my body could handle it. I have had wonderful success with met, along with diet and exercise. I lost 165 pounds in almost two years, I've maintained for 2.5, and now I'm expecting our first child. So, yup, it was a godsend for me.

I have been on met for almost 3 months now, and for most of that time on 2550 mg a day.
I was getting very frustrated because it did not seem to be doing a thing for me. My last AF was end of Dec (and I believe that it was brought on by provera), so it didn't seem to regulate me. And I didn't lose any weight.
But then around May 1 I got what looked like a positive reading on the OPT, so my DH and I acted accordingly. Anyway, yesterday I got a faint positive reading on a preg test, and I ran into my RE for a blood test to confirm. A pregnancy is confirmed! I don't know if it would have happened without the Met, but I will give the Met the benefit of the doubt!!!

I'm actually on 2500 of Met XR & didn't notice any additional symptoms when Dr up'd does from 2000 to 2500. Just make sure that you take you med's with dinner (in the middle) not 30 minutes later or you'll get a tummy ache. Good luck!

hi Friends
I am also taking METFORMIN 2000 mg but i have sever stomach ache and diarrhea can u plz suggest me something to improve it I take 2 pills after the breakfast and 2 after the dinner do u think that I should take b/w the meals may be that will help plz suggest something b/c this diarrhea and stomachache is killing me. thanks in advance

Suhani Why Don't You Start Taking 2 At Night Try That For A Week, And If That Is Still Bothering Take Just 1 Pill For A Week, The Following Week 2, The Week After That 3 Ans Son On Until You Get To The Full Dosage. Luckily I Haven't Had Any Issues At That Amount Of Miligrams...good Luck!

I started my dosage gradually but still have this diarrhea and stomach ache but i dont want to stop my Metformin.I have been taking this Metformin for the last 3 yrs(on and off) but still my stomach is not used to it

Just the 1000mg was aching my stomach but I found that if I drink a 1/2 glass of milk let it marinate for a few and then take the met with the other 1/2 then followed with water it relieved most of the tummy aches. I've only been on for a week and a half and it hasn't been bothering me anymore.

I'm on 1500 right now but doc would like to move me up to 2000 when i get over the hump of side effects I'm having right now.
He has me taking 1000 in the morning and 500 at night. I asked if I could switch so that I'd sleep through the worst and he said no. Anyone know why?
