Default Anybody diagnosed with PCOS and OCD?

Not necessarily diagnosed at the same time, of course, but does anyone else have both?

I was dx-ed with OCD in my early twenties. My dr at the time put me on Prozac for treatment, and I thought she was nuts. Since then, I've been upgraded to PMDD since the OCD problems only bother me a few weeks out of the month.

A therapist I saw told me that she believed I had OCD in some form. I don't have the compulsive behaviors, per se, but I definitely have the obsessive thoughts.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15 and was diagnosed with OCD probably in my mid twenties. I do not have the compulsions, just the obsessive thoughts.

I know I already responded to this but I just wanted to add that I too do not have the compulsions just the obsessive thoughts. Lexapro has helped me...thankfully.

I have both. I've had OCD since I was a little girl - trichotillomania.

Sharmayla,
I'm sorry you've been dealing with this since you were a little girl. Can you explain Trichotillomania? I'm guessing it has something to do wiht hair right? My little girl is 4 y.o and puts her self to sleep by pulling out a couple of strands of hair and sucking her thumb. I often wonder if she's displaying some OCD behavior. (That's not the only OC thing she does that concerns me, though one of the more troubling.) She can't stop herself from doing it. We tell her to stop pulling out her pretty hair but she doesn't. If you ask her why she just says, "I just like to." Makes me sad for her.

alolmommy:
I feel sad for your little girl, too. I wish someone had taken me to a therapist and gotten me some help, but no one did. I pulled my hair out so bad, that I had a huge bald spot on top of my head for most of my childhood. My grandma was the only one who said anything about it. She asked me "Why are you combing your hair over the top of your head like a bald man?" Then she looked and saw why. I don't remember her reaction, but she must've thought "Oh My God!" Then, my aunt gave me "worry beads". Remember those? She told me whenever I felt nervous or worried or scared, to play with the worry beads. And that was all anyone ever said about it. I firmly believe if they had gotten me some help, I wouldn't still be doing it at age 51. I wish someone had told me "don't pull out your pretty hair." That's the perfect thing to say to her! But if it gets worse (I don't think you need to take her yet), I hope you take her to a therapist, or she might still be doing it at age 51 too.

One time, I quit doing it for three whole years, and I got the most beautiful thick hair down to my hips. I don't know why, but I just quit! But then I started up again and started seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist, and got medication, and it's been trial and error with the medication. It's only recently gotten much much better. I've all but quit again, but I don't have thick hair anymore because of the PCOS. Bummer.
