Unhappy Anybody else incredibly tired?

I've seen several quick references to PCOS and extreme tiredness but can't find much info about any connection. The docs can't explain the tiredness--they always want to blame my thyroid, but I have no thyroid anymore and haven't had to change my dosage in years so that is not the problem. Once that test comes back normal, they quit looking. Anybody else have this problem?

Mine turned out to be allergies. I don't have itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, etc... I just get EXTREMELY tired.

As much as I hate taking pills every day, I'm non-functional without a daily dose of Claritin-D.

Don't self-diagnose, however. You might want to see another doctor.

Default Tired

Low oestrogen levels can cause tiredness.... I am exhausted constantly !!!

I have recently started taking the BCP to try and increase my oestrogen ... and hopefully I won't be sooooo tired !

I should have included more background. I've already seen about 10 doctors (no lie). I also have severe endometriosis, so unfortunately, low estrogen is not my problem. So far, everything seems to have been ruled out so that's why I'm wondering if it could be related to PCOS.

Since PCOS is a syndrome, you fatigue wouldn't be due to pcos, it might, however, be related to one of the things that 'makes up' pcos...

Either way, i'd find a new doctor.

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? that can lead to fatigue (and sleep apnea is very common in women with pcos)

Depression can also manifest as fatigue (as opposed to the stereotypical 'weepiness'.) Depression is also common in women with pcos.

Many cysters report drowsiness when then consume too many high-glycemic carbs...

you need a doctor who will explore all avenues.

I don't have sleep apnea (DH does, but not me), I don't suffer from depression and I am hypoglycemic so I do not eat sugar or other high glycemic carbs. My doctors are at a loss. I have been tested for everything under the sun, but everything they've found that could be a factor is now under control (except the hormones) and I am still tired. My mom always was too, but she was anemic and I'm not. I know it's somehow related to the hormone problems, but nothing seems to work and the surgeries to alleviate the endo just seem to make things worse.

Are you sure it's not allergies?

I've never had them until this year, and the only symptom I had was extreme fatigue.

I think Jashobeam has the same undiagnosed chronic fatigue, too. you might want to pm her.

I've had extensive allergy tests, so I know it isn't that. I do tend to have allergic reactions to medications, but I am very careful what I take and have even stopped ttc because of Clomid side effects. I can't even take pain pills after surgeries, but I know that's not the issue with my everyday fatigue, and it doesn't seem to qualify as chronic fatigue syndrome either.

I have just read that fatigue is a common symptom of insulin resistance. Have you been tested? All the best. A.

I would suggest finding another doctor.

Do you take Metformin? I was also extremely tired earlier this year. I started taking a B vitamin complex b/c I read somewhere on this site that Met can cause your B vitamins to be too low. It made an ENORMOUS difference in my energy level - I wouldn't have believed it if it didn't happen to me. I just got back from a 2 week trip to Fiji and while I was there I got sloppy about taking medicine/vitamins b/c my schedule was off. Halfway through I started complaining to my friend that I was exhausted even though I was sleeping more than at home and napping some afternoons. I was getting some advil for her and found my bottle of B vitamins and started taking them and felt better in a matter of days.

I also feel tired. I just started taking some herbs my acupuncturist gave me. They have actually helped me and I don't feel all shaky after taking them. They are for energy, no caffeine or anything like that. Theses just help your circulation which helps with fatigue. I know...just what we need is more pills! If you are interested I will give you her web page. Good Luck and I feel for you.

What are your sleeping and eating habits like?

Do you rise and retire at the same time every night? Do you get enough sleep each night?

Do you eat a healthy breakfast every morning, and spread out the rest of your nutrition throughout the day?

For me, diet can make a huge difference in my energy levels. Low fat diets for me, trigger depression (which for me manifests as extreme fatigue). Even if I 'accidentally' eat low fat for a few days, my energy plummets. To combat it, I take fish oil.

I also feel groggy all the time if I eat a diet too heavy in starchy carbs. I do fine on low carb, and I also do fine on low glycemic, and even vegetarian diets heavy in fresh produce.

Default Exercise?

Hey there
I have the same problem, for me sporting really helps. Try to do some serious sports about 3 times a week, and at least 45 min of mild exercise each day, see if it gets better. Good luck!
