I've got this pain in my shin on my left leg. Hurts like the devil if I bang it into anything, and sometimes it hurts for no particular reason. My legs swell alot, and originally I thought this was why it hurt. I finally went to my doctor today and he didn't have a clue. We did some XRays and hopefully they can tell us something.
I just got to thinking about stress fractures. I looked them up on Google, but most websites just describe what causes them, not what they feel like, so I was just wondering if anyone has had one.
Hugs
Julie

Never had a stress fracture that I know of, although lots of unexplained pains in feet and ankles that only went away after strapping and weeks of painkillers. Just wanted to say hope you are feeling better soon.
Hi~ Hope you are feeling better! Yes, I have had two stress fractures! They hurt like crazy! Please make sure your re does everything to help you take care of it! Mine didn't and it ended up being a three year process, in recovery w/physical therepy. I ended up braking one of the fractures and they didn't know it? You will feel it, if the pain gets more intense than before. Krutches for 11 1/2 months! Instead of me going on and on, scaring you to death, just please make sure that they put you in a "boot" or put an air cast on. That's what would of saved me from two and then the brake. Good Luck and I hope you get a good report!!! If it is a stress fracture, make sure you keep it elivated the most you can. My re says to treat them like they are broke~ they sure do hurt just as bad, if not worse! GOOD LUCK AND LET US KNOW HOW THINGS GO! P.S. When will they tell you?

Thank you for your response! Sorry you have had such a rough time.
The nurse said I should hear back Tuesday. Dr Cary says that if the XRay is negitive, that I should keep using the Ben Gay and if it doesn't go away to call him back. We didn't even talk about it being a stress fracture, so I think that even if the XRay comes back neg, I'm going ot ask for an MRI or something. I read somewhere that sometimes the fractures are so small they don't show up on XRay. Think that's a good idea?
The thought of breaking one of these freaks me out. LOL.
I got some Asprecream or whatever that is and it didn't really help. Matter of fact, it seems to hurt more. I was thinking the rubbing wasn't helping. Did your's hurt ALL the time?
Hugs and thanks
Julie

HI Yes, you are right. Stress fractures do NOT show up on xrays!!! Be sure if you think you have one, to ask for a mri or catscan?!? I wish you the best of luck! Best wishes!

are you sure you don't have shin splints? I was told I had them because of the pronation of my feet (they slide outwards when i walk) My doc prescribed orthodics to help realign my feet. Within 2 months the pain went away, and i find that i can walk a lot better now.
If you go to webmd.com, do a search on shin splints...they have some good information on it.

You know, when I was in high school, I had to wear braces because my feet turned outwards. They don't really do it anymore, but maybe that's something to look into too.
Thank you!
