Default Anybody heard of...

Dermatitis Herpetiformis? No, it's not something I just made up. It's an auto-immune disorder similar to Celiac's. Its a gluten intolerance that manifests itself as itchy bumps on my knees and elbows (my dh calls it "herpes of the knees," lovely, I know!). It can be controlled with a gluten free diet (ughh!) or a med called Dapsone.
Anyways, I was dx'ed with it in 2005 and then dx'ed with PCOS in 2007. I don't think there is any kind of connection between the two, but I was just wondering if anyone else had both. I know its pretty rare, I see a dermatologist for care, and they only have a couple of patients with it. Just wondered if I was the only one lucky enough to win BOTH conditions?!

Natalie,
I dunno, you should google it to get some pictures of it. They are pretty distinctive bumps, when I have a breakout they look like little ant bites or water blisters. I spent 5 months between docs trying to dx it. I had never had any symptoms before 5/2005 and it came on like wildfire. I was miserable the entire summer.

Eva,
In the 3 yrs that I've had this, I have only met one person who didn't say "huh" when I told them I have DH. Was it hard to go gluten free? My doc briefly suggested it, then suggested the medication, which keeps it completely under control (as long as I remember to take it!). We are trying to concieve, so gluten free may be in the future for me, even if its for a short perid.
