Not on PCOS meds Hey there. I as of now am not on PCOS medications (I am on some other meds for fibromyalgia, but not for PCOS). I was just diagnosed about a week ago, and haven't seen the endo yet. My internist said I could start on BCP right away, but that it might mask my symptoms and that would hinder my appointment with the endo. So I'm waiting until I see him (in about 2 weeks). I'm not sure what he'll recommend. I don't enjoy taking meds, but if it helps me control everything, I'll just bite the bullet.
Whether or not I am prescribed anything, I am doing several other things to help everything. Exercise and diet are BIG! My doctor has said that I might even help start myself ovulating if I lost just about 10 pounds or so. I think also just generally taking care of yourself is important. Try to get enough sleep, don't over-stress yourself, etc.
That's about it so far. I'll see what happens when I see the endo! As for you, if your doctors don't know that much about PCOS, can you request a referral to a specialist? Or just change docs? If not, maybe try to educate him as much as you can (and yourself!). Maybe get him a book or print out some articles, so that at least he's a little better informed? Just a thought. Hope all goes well!
