My Dr prescribed Topamax to try to control my migraines. I have been taking it for almost a week now. As far as the migraines go, it's working so-so (or I'm at a benign point in my cycle), but I'm having a strange side effect. When I drink soda pop (which is usually diet) it tastes like straight syrup. You know, like a flat can of pop of something. It's really strange. The first 2 cans, I just dumped right out 'cause I was sure they'd been punctured somehow. Then I asked DH to taste the next & he said it was fine. Anybody else have this problem or am I just weird??? It kind of makes me feel like I'm going crazy!!!

My DH has been taking Topamax for about a year now and had the exact same problem as you. He said that pop tasted disgusting and he kept dumping the cans out thinking that there was something wrong with the case. He's actually stopped drinking pop completely (and I have too) and we can't believe how much weight we've both lost... we don't crave it at all anymore.
I was on Topamax for migraines last year. There is a side effect of making carbonated drinks taste like this or metallic tasting. I didn't drink carbonated drinks while I was on it. HTH.

I Had The Same Side Effect As You All. It So Helped With Diet But I Loved Carbonated Drinks And It Killed Me Not To Be Able To Drink Any Of Them, No Cokes, No Cherry Limeades, Nothing Carbonated At All. I Only Drank Juice, Water, & Milk.
I've been on Topamax for about 1 and 1/2 years. It has worked wonders for my migraines. I also had the pleasant side effect of weight loss. The soda thing happend for me, too. I at first thought something was wrong with the soda also. The side effect eventually went away for me.
