I went to the Dr. today and he prescribed Provera (progesterone pills). He wants me to take it for the first 10 days of every month to regulate the cycles. He gave me this because I told him that I didn't want to do BCP. It sounded okay until I was reading the side effects...one of them being excess hair growth which is the last thing that I need more of. Has anybody tried this approach and did it cause more hair?
hi, a few years ago i was put on a course of provera and the only side effect i had was more intense and longer monthly. Because i do not get a monthly and only a yearly, it was very annoying to find my ' yearly' lasted longer than a month and the dr took me off. I do not know if that was just me or a different symptom. Maybe my body rejected it, i dunno. But hair...not me.
My doctor started me on Provera to induce a period after not getting one for four months and so I could start Yasmin. I started to spot on my 7th or 8th day on the pill and have been ever since. I did not get AF full force. A couple side effects that I got from the pill was that I became very very emotional, headaches were very bad, and I was nauseated. Thank god I was only on this pill for 10 days. Hopefully you will not get bad side effects from it. Best wishes.

I took Provera on a reg basis before I was diagnosed. I took it because DH and I were TTC. I never had reg AF. The only side effect I had was having to buy a home pregnancy test every month before I took the pill.
I take provera, but don't get the side effects mentioned by others. I'm supposed to take it every 3 months to induce period, but sometimes go longer. If I wait longer it seems like my period is longer and heavier. Lately I've been really good about it and my last period was 5 days + 2 days of spotting. I'm also on Metformin and when I've taken provera in the past (pre-metformin) my periods were not nearly as "normal". Hope this helps.
My Dr just put me on 10mg for 10 days. He said it would stop the spotting(usual a few days before my normal period) and then a few days after the last dose I should expect to get a heavier than usual period. He LIED. I am now on day 5 and have been having the worst cramping and super heavy bleeding since day 2. I should mention that this was prescribed to me as a start of fertility treatment and although I do get AF like clockwork every month he felt that my lining was to thick and I should have a round with provera before starting my clomid. This is my first time with Provera and from other posts I have read it seems that others are taking it to bring on AF. I called and he seems to think this is normal since my lining was so thick. I will never take this again, ever.
I have been on provera before and remember the cramping. Its been several years since I last took it and now I've been on it 10 days so I can start Yasmin. So far I haven't had any symptons that Im gonna get a period except for some cramping when I pee (sorry). Im not sure if thats a side effect or if I have a uti. In anycase I always got my period by now, whats the next step if you don't get your period?
