My Yasmin was just rejected by my insurance. I've had tremendous results using it in combination with Spiro! My blood pressure has dropped from 140/95 to 117/82, my unwanted hair has slowed growing, my AF is completely back to normal, I'm not breaking out, etc. etc. etc. I wasn't getting these results when I was just on the spiro.
Has anyone had success getting Yasmin approved? And if so, what did you say to your insurance company to get them to pay attention? Thanks everyone!
Is this new insurance? Or has it gone through before and not now? Does your policy cover some BCP's and just not Yasmin?
I have had no trouble getting it approved by my insurance company (the pharmacy just sent it through the computer and it was fine), except I still have to pay $25 a month because it isn't on some list somewhere and there's no generic yet blah blah.

Tried Ortho-Tri, terrible terrible. Mircette saved my life. Then tried Yasmin which was OK but had some side effects.
Now I'm back on Kariva (generic Mircette) with a low dose of Spiro. Ten bucks a month and I'm in a deliciously good mood.
I took that quiz and I'm Curry Flavored, how cool is that?
No, it's not new insurance. I've had it for almost 2 years. But I just started the Yasmin in October when I went from no AF at all to an AF for 10 days, then 10 days off, then another AF for 10 days, etc. (Nonstop!) So the doctor gave me several months worth of samples to try, and they work so well for so many PCOS symptoms!
BTW, I have Regence Preferred, and they have a limited formulary list. I'm also looking for anyone who has fought their insurance succesfully to have Yasmin covered. Who can afford $30.00 a month?
I'm on Yasmin as well and my insurance co. won't cover any BCP at retail. I have to order them through my insurance's home delivery program and I get 3 packs for $33.00. It's kind of a pain to have to order online or call rather than just go to the local pharmacy to pick them up but one pack at retail is $34.00 for me.
My insurance covers it but it still costs me $25 if i get it at the pharmacy. I can order it by mail and save some money. I argued that it wasn't just to prevent pregnancy. Altho, I am also in Spiro and have to be careful of that. I do hope they make a generic!
I have had Aetna PPO for a while, still have it even paying via COBRA. Back in the summer, an ER prescribed it ostensibly for hair problems & acne (I already had IUD), and when I filled it at CVS pharmacy, the insurance paid it for three months (except my usual copay, like $5-10). I ended up stalling in taking it out of fear and our old cat knocked it into the toilet (yes, true) so I never did take it, but I am not sure what the doctor told the insurance company. Sorry, I guess it doesn't help your question much.

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
I HAVE UNITED HEALTHCARE AND I HAVE TO PAY $25.00 FOR IT, WHICH IS EXPENSIVE WITH ALL OF MY OTHER MEDS

Your reply may not have helped, but it sure was an amusing story!
Sounds like most insurance companies don't pay for it. I'm surprised by the price differences, though! It will cost me either $31 every month, or $89 if I order a 3-month supply from my mail-in perscription program, Walgreens. Somehow I'll manage, it's working too well for me to quit taking it.
To get them covered I had my doctor write a letter and send it to my insurance company. It stated that they were medically necessary and the reasons that they were.
