Default Anyone able to reduce their metformin dose?

I finally realized that the metformin is why with my new increase in exercise is making me so darned tired. I take 850 mgs twice a day. I am exahusted despite low carb diet and lots of exercise. I could'nt get my doctor but when I told the Pharmacist he was like stop! Cut the pills in half of take only one a day! I have been unbelievably tired to the poitn of wanting to sleep at the pool. very unusual for me. I was expecting a huge boost in energy. Has anyone else reduced their meds due to naturally lowering their insuling levels via diet and exercise?

Default I was at 2000 mgs

and had to reduce to 1000 due to the decrease in weight by exercise and change in diet. I was having severe blood sugar issues at night especially.

Blessings!

My Endo put me on 2000mg and I was so tired I was not coming into work and was getting written up or dirty looks.

I told the OB doctor and he put me on 1500mg and I started to have periods even but there were 2 changes
Dropped in dosage
Changed over to the generic brand.

I recently went back to 2000mg becuase the other OB said I needed to be on the 2000mg but I tell ya I just can't do 2000mg I went back to the 1500mg on my own and am telling her I did so next appointment.

You don't think that just maybe the 1500mg is enough for me? I mean I feel my best at that dosage!!!

When I was on glucophage doctor increase dosage to 1000 mg twice a day. I only take 1.
But yes if I drink 2 I get tired. Now I am currently with avandamet to help lower insulin resistant level; I am taking it once a day instead of twice a day.
Whats with doctor of forcing us cysters to take double or triple dosage when you really want to try out with 1? Geesh!

Not at all. You may feel great on it. The truth is that the doctor is the one who sees and reads your labs on this and if the labs are still indicating problems at this level something needs to change either up the dose or add mor exercise and reduce sugars and starches until the labs read normally. I have heard of too many cases turning into Diabetes and you certaintly don't want that to happen. Neither do I. I take 1700mg. a day.

they don't make money off the scrips by writing for higher dosages. I really do think in general most doctors are really trying to help their patients. It does depend on ones degree of resisitance. I saw from your sig you are on a lot of meds to begin with. What do you do from a diet and exercise standpoint to reduce the amounts? I do weightraining and was able to reduce my dose. I have 4 kids and it is tough to do, but it is important for my health to be here and healthy for them. Creating new muscle helps sensitize the body to insulin and makes it more effective.

Honestly?

I do nothing beside cutting back. Just dance a little and that's it.
I am hoping to start exercising sometime soon. I feel so unmotivated to do anything and even if the weather is nice I wont go for a walk.

Gosh alexandra your very pushy But that is good for not knowing us your very adamit and I like that is ya girlee... When I was on 2000mg and cut back to 1500mg I started to have periods and actually she told me I could stay at that since I was having periods (kinda left that part out) but I thought if I take the 2000mg I would continue having them and NOT I am on CD 55 so this week I cut back to th 1500mg and started doing my exercise tape and I can tell ya I am sore today but it doesn't dis-courage me I want to start this now and continue!!! I want to walk a mile at lunch time too!!! Then when I get home another mile. I was very surprised how fast a mile went and in hopes that I get up to like 2-3 or maybe 4 who knows. These tapes, I really enjoy them...I prayed last night that GOD give me that boost!!!
