I have been looking into adoption trying to find an inexpensive way to adopt so we won't be broke broke when we get a baby.

I Found Lifetime adoptions and a few others has anyone adopted from there>? Or do you where we could adopt for less money?

Well there are a lot of good stories from lifetime. We are not going to use them though. We decided that they are probably not in my price range with all the travel costs and all the double fees for lawyer and social workers. It adds up fast...so we are going to use a lawyer and it seems like she really knows what she is doing. If you live in california then GO for it! But for an agency in Illinois we could pay 300 bucks more to have a licensed agency do it for us. Where do you live. My Email is KAnde725@aol.com feel free to email me anytime. Just say this is Jodi from PCOS board. in subject headline.

I have found a ton of places that i researched locally.

Jneal,
Have you looked in Memphis? I live in Arkansas (about 10 minutes from Memphis), and I've seen alot of agencies in the yellow pages for Memphis.

Let me know if you need any help in getting info for Memphis agencies.

Jneal,
Yes my DS Zach is adopted. We went to Guatemala to get him in May of last year. I didn't use a local agency. I used one in New York. (I wouldn't recommend them now though, as many people have had bad experiences with them) It took us 6 months from dossier to travel. Anyway, we are looking at adopting domestically this time so I've been looking at some of the local agencies.

As for open or closed, we have some information about the Bmom, and a picture of her, but she doesn't have any information on us. We do however keep in contact with the Foster Mom who lives in the same town as the Bmom.

I'm probably going to end up having to use an agency in TX or somewhere with a large Hispanic population because we really want to adopt a Hispanic child.

Yes, there are TONS of decisions to make in adoption, but just take it one step at a time, and it won't seem as overwhelming.

If I can answer any more of your questions, let me know.

Good luck!

that's so neat...i have had my heart set on adopting from guatemala. an agency (building blocks adoptions out of ohio) sent me a picture of a little boy and i absolutely fell in love with him, knowing full well of course that i would not be able to adopt HIM, however, it did spawn the fever i had for adopting from guatemala. it is just soooo expensive. i would love the security and finality that accompanies an international adoption but the cost has put doubts in my head. i am a very impatient person, especially considering the length of time i have been ttc, and my husband wants to save up all, of or at least 80% of the cost of an adoption before we even begin. he is very financially minded. He is a banker and is ANTI DEBT!!! so, with that said, i would have to wait a really long time before we could do an international adoption. however, i have been looking into LIFETIME adoptions and it is very appealing to me. i have never been one that would even consider doing an open adoption, but the other day, it just hit me...if I were the birthmother, that is the ONLY way i could do an adoption. i would have to have the security of knowing that i have lovingly and carefully selected the perfect family for my child. i really think that open adoptions have eliminated the fear of the unknown for the birthmother which i firmly believe is the reason some bm's come back for the baby.
i just think that if they carry and birth a baby and then never see it again and have no clue as to it's where-abouts, it could prompt them to one day seek that child.

who knows...i am just getting my feet wet with all of this and trying desperately to figure out the best way to start a family!

by the way...have you looked into LIFETIME? i noticed that there were several hispanic babies there...

thanks...jodi

Jodi...lifetime it is very appealing because of the price and wait time. But the thing you have to remember is that you have to pay 2 lawyer fees and 2 social worker fees...they don't point that out to you. Plus you have to pay for travel expenses LIKE 2 WEEKS in a hotel and eating out and a car. That adds up fast...my step aunt and uncle just adopted from arizona and spend 6-7K on travel expenses. We found a lawyer lady. SHe is sort of a facilitator...she takes calls from birthmoms and screens them. We put ads in the paper stating call my lawyer at such and such..She then talks to tehm and meets with them shows them our profile and then if she wants she calls us to ask to meet or talk to her. She does this within a year we should have a baby. Her fees are about 6k with court costs. the homestudy we will have to get is like $2250 and then any advertisement and birth mother expenses. Since she is a lawyer it seems like she should really know what is right and what is not that gave us another piece of mind. we have great laws in illinois and that is another reason why i wanted to stay in illinois...besides i don't want to be stuck in another state far away with an infant by my self. these decisions are really hard! I hope this helps.

Hi ladies. I am at he point of checking out adoption agencies too. Here in Connecticut we have to use an adoption agency - not facilitators and not only attorneys.. In my learning stage I checked out lifetime adoptions and realized something. Those listings that they have on their site are weird. I mean several months ago I saw a listing that they had a baby that would be born in FEBUARY of 2005 - the math did not compute!

I have been checking out the sites were pple can comment on the agencies that they use.

every state has a list of approved agecies - below is the list from ct:

Hi, I would love to share info on local Illinois adoption agencies. I was turned down by Lifetime since I'm single and they currently have their quota of single women.

Info on the lawyer would be great. I also looked into The Cradle -= though I haven't attended any of their info sessions yet. Over the phone they said they accepted singles but Lifetime said that as well so I'm not sure that will work out.
