I was wondering if anyone is adopting from Guatemala. We are working on our dossier and have two more individual homestudy visits to go and then we will wait for INS to approve us and wait for a referral of a baby girl. :-) Would love to see if anyone else is adopting from Guatemala.
Boy, I wish we could afford to adopt from Guatemala! Wouldn't that be nice... I actually doubt we'll be able to afford to adopt from anywhere. Good luck, though, in your adoption journey.

Still hoping and praying to adopt #2 someday... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 0 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
We had to take a home equity line of credit out to be able to afford it. It's so worth it though these babies are so well cared for by their foster mothers. I can't wait to get a referral! Thanks for the well wishes.

We are currently saving to adopt again from Guatemala. I absolutely LOVE that country. Of course I'm biase though. ;-) Anyway, we are no where near through saving, but best of luck to you on your journey. Let me know if I can be of any help.

We're planning to adopt from Guatemala. Right now we have to save up money and get our house ready for the homestudy, then we'll be playing the waiting game. (Feel like I've been waiting forever as it is LOL)

Hi Cassie! I think something's going on with the site. A few times I saw a message like "Temporarily down for maintenance" or something like that. It's been up and down for the past several days I think, and down most, if not all, of this weekend. I'm bummed because I was getting sort of addicted to checking the message board several times a day LOL.

My husband and I are thinking of adoption. We found someone to do our homestudy and now we're just trying to decide. The main thing we're concerned about is money. Once we get the homestudy though we can apply for grants and stuff so that will help! Anyone have any financial advice?

The social worker who did our homestudy has her own adoption agency - she does adoptions from Gautemala - her website: http://www.adoptionjourneys.org/

Best of luck, Kim! Keep us posted on how things go, since we're just starting the adoption process, and Guatemala is our country of choice. We'll be sending off our initial application next week!!! We're adopting through Children's Home Society & Family Services out of Minnesota.
We've started raising money through garage sales, fundraiser sales, and we're currently doing a raffle. My mom works for a meat market, and she's purchased $70 worth of steaks and chops that will go great on the grill. We're selling raffle tickets for $5 a piece or 5 for $20, and it seems to be going pretty well so far. My mom also beads jewelry, and she's selling off her handmade bracelets and such to help out, too. I'm considering a second job as a Tupperware salesperson or something to that effect. We also have family members who are so supportive they are offering to give us every penny they can to help. After our homestudy is complete, we'll be applying for grants and adoption loans as well.
Best of luck to everyone!

Thank you so much! Best of luck to you too. We had to take a home equity line of credit to pay for it but it will be all worth it when our baby is home with us. I can't wait to be paper ready and get a referral. We finished our homestudy visits just waiting on the homestudy report and a few more documents. Then we will have the big wait for the INS approval.

We are currently in the process of adopting a baby boy from Guatemala. We have completed our homestudy and almost have our Dossier ready to go. We should receive our I-171H form in a few weeks and will get a referral then. Feel free to email me with any ?s at jenniferw223@yahoo.com. As far as the costs go we are taking a distribution from my husbands IRA and hoping we don't get killed at tax time. :-)
