I was pretty big on it for a few months but now I'm starting to back off a bit and I think I'm done for good taking the Isoflavones. I keep researching and reading so many bad things about Soy. And I have to be honest, even though it made me ovulate, it was always late O, it didn't make my CM any better (it's actually been WORSE the last few cycles), and my BBT chart during Soy cycles is almost worrisome due to coverline temps during my luteal phases.
Anyone else staying away from Soy?

I only took it for 2 cycles, I think I had CD18 and CD20 O dates.....Once I exhaust all my other options (run out of follistim cycles that my insurance will cover, and then run out of all of my leftover clomid) I will probably do it again.
All of the negative soy stuff i've read refers to when you are taking it every day for weeks on end.....I think taking it for 5 days is probably fine.

That's true. But I guess I figure that if it doesn't do much for me ovulation-wise, then what's the point of putting it in my body, ya know? I haven't seen many women around here get pregnant on it, just a few. I wonder if it just doesn't produce good ovulation.

I'm eh-soy. Not really anti....just...eh. I think it's still up in the air if I even ovulated on it, even though my chart has crosshairs on FF. I'm just not entirely sure if I O'ed, and if I did, I don't think it was a really good ovulation (if there is such a thing) because there hasn't been that big of a temp difference pre and post-O.
It might work for some....but I'm just not sure if it worked for me. Or maybe I just didn't get the right dosage or something. THere are a lot of variables to it, I think...
If I were to start O'ing on my own, i wouldn't take anything.....I guess that's where i figure, as a last resort, O'ing, even a weak O, is better than no O.

No. I don't, or at least not regularly. So I guess it's better than waiting another 3 months for AF to show up! that's if I O'ed! I guess if AF shows up in about 5 days, then I'll know I O'ed and I'll probably feel a little diferently about soy. Just right now I'm ......eh about it.
I don't even know if I O on my own. Last time I went totally unmedicated (no Clomid or Soy) was over a year ago. I have 3 rounds of Clomid left and then I guess I'll find out!
I also want to say that the other reason I'm not big on taking Soy Iso is because now that I read all the ingredients in our food- good grief! EVERYTHING has soy in it! I had no idea until I really started looking lately. No wonder so many women are infertile considering how much crap we put in our bodies (and not just Soy!).

I think there are different kinds of soy. The soy in our food is different than what we take for ttc. At least, I think they are. anyway, I'm kind of iffy on soy. I took it last cycle, O'd, but was taking it with clomid too. I think the soy helped because my previous clomid rounds didn't do jack for O'ing and the cycle i took soy I o'd.. soooo IDK.
I'm not supposed to have alot of soy because of my thyroid, but they didn't say anything about me taking the soy isoflavens when I told the dr. i was taking it. They just told me to avoid eating foods and drinks heavy in soy.

Metformin - 2500mg
Folic Acid - 400mg
Aspirin low-dose - 81mg Medicated Cycles

4th Round 150mg - Wish me luck!
Oceanic - I know what you mean -- soy is in everything. I'm allergic to soy and have serious GI issues if I eat it. Unfortunately it's a very cheap source of oil that helps food have a longer shelf life. It's virtually impossible for me to buy processed food (no salad dressing, mayo or energy bars) because it has soybean oil or soy protein. Even foods that you wouldn't expect have soy (like almost all bread, and even McDonald's hamburgers used to have soy to save money). Idk, but I thought the soy isoflavones are simply extracts of soy, which is not that different from eating soy.

Exactly! It's crazy. And eating soy day after day after day after day can't be healthy.

I'm newly diagnosed PCOS and now it looks like I have Hashimoto's too. My doctor specifically told me to stay away from soy products. I'm trying to cut it out, but it's hard. I was drinking soy milk in my coffee so that was the first thing I threw out.
What gets me is that even now they have all these soy-filled "health foods" like soy joy and soy crisps - like the average American isn't getting plenty of soy already!
I thought about taking soy lecithin for a while, because it's supposed to be high in the right kind of inositol. I even bought a bottle. Then I looked it up on PubMed and found two articles in which soy lecithin was fed to pregnant rats and caused serious neurological problems in their offspring.
Of course soy lecithin is in all processed foods, and most babies don't have serious neurological problems - but needless to say, I wasn't going to be adding any more of that to my diet if I could help it. But when it comes to TTC - I don't think Clomid is particularly GOOD for you either, and I'm sure if you kept taking it for years it would mess you up big time. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
klyann - So sorry about the Hashimoto's. At least you've been diagnosed, and I'm sure you'll feel much better with treatment.
well i for one have had it with soy. i did 5 cycles w/it. i ovulated the first 2 rounds, very early (cd's 9 & 11) and after that i was back to my normal 50-plus day cycles. not to mention cycles 3&4 i had so much mid-cycle spotting (which is completely new to me) that i got completely lost and half the time wasn't even sure what cycle i was in anymore. it was like, too heavy to be spotting but too light to be a period, it was weird and awful.
stupidly, i did take it again this cycle out of desperation (waiting to start clomid next cycle) and i wish i hadn't. af is due tomorrow and i have a feeling she's not gonna show... don't know if it's the soy or not but i've definitely soured on the whole idea. won't be doing it again.
oh i wanted to add: of course we all know about only taking it 5 days, but lately there's been new bits of info i've been hearing about how even taking it for 5 days, if you take too high of a dose, can screw up O... idk how much truth there is to it, but all in all there's just too much confusion and not enough definite answers for me to continue. if anyone's having luck with it, more power to them, but as for me - i'm done.

Not preventing since late 2005.
Actively trying since March 2009.
6 cycles w/soy, 3 O's, all BFN.
4 cycles w/clomid, 4 O's, all BFN.
Taking February off to get some further
testing done.

Yeah, I'm done too I think. My hormones are almost all within normal range AND I exercise a good amount (plus eat well). So I don't even know if I NEED the Soy to ovulate. Guess I'll find out if these 3 Clomid cycles don't work.
Dura, speaking of Clomid, I know that's bad for you too, which is why I won't do anything beyond it - no injectibles or anything. Those scare me, especially when I hear horrific stories of women getting huge bursting cysts and ending up in the hospital *shudder*
