Okay, first of all i want to say how much I enjoy this board. I joined a few months a go but just recently i decided to start posting.
I'm glad i did. You ladies are just awesome!
I don't know if i'm posting this on the right section but i'm hoping i can get a reply from someone.
My boyfriend and I are going to be celebrating our one year anniversary in two weeks and we're going to be going away for the weekend. The problem is that I start my sugar pills 4 days before we leave and I'm going to be getting my period. That is the only weekend that we can get away because we both have school and we're going to be going through finals in the next week. After that it's christmas and we're spending it with our families. So basically, our only weekend available is Dec 17th. But i hate that i'm going to be on my period!
Is it really bad for my body if i skip the sugar pills? meaning I don't allow myself to get a period this month and start the new pack? I have never done this so i don't even know it's going to work. I just don't like to mess with my body like that but this day is so special for us. My boyfriend want us to wait til January but I really want to celebrate our anniversary on the actual month...so has anyone not taken the sugar pills and started a pill pack before?
and if so, did you get a period or not?
thanks.

I have heard that this can and does work for many many women. However, I tried it once to postpone AF for a special occasion, and I ended up bleeding for almost two weeks. Nothing horrible, just constant bleeding and/or spotting. So its definitely worth a shot, but don't be shocked if something like this happens to you. Hope this helps, and happy anniversary!

I tried it when I was on BCPs. I just went straight to the new pack, but it didn't really work for me. My period slipped up on me, just a few days late. And since I was taking the active pills, I wasn't really expecting it. I still tried it another time after that, but I ended up with the spotting for about 2 weeks like StarraeAday1 just mentioned. I think it just didn't work because I was on triphasic pills. It would maybe work better for monophasic. Good luck, and Happy Anniverary.

Thanks for your replies.
Jesi, I believe the pills i'm taking are called Demulen (generic).
I'm kinda skeptical because this is my first month on the pill in a very long time.

I've done this a bunch of times on both Diane and Tricyclen (mostly because I was travelling - though an anniversary seems like as good of a reason as any.
The times I've done it I just started the next pack right after the last active pill in the old pack.
though with: "Start taking your sugar pills one week before (so you get AF earlier... no surprises)." wouldn't that negate the contraceptive aspect of the pill?

I've done skipped a period twice while I was on BCP. I just continued taking my active pills instead of doing the sugar pills. I didn't have any problems with it but it might be because even when I do take my sugar pills I only bleed 2 sometimes 3 days. Good luck and have a great anniversary.
I have done both options you described in your original post (skip the sugar pills altogether, and take them a week early). I preferred skipping them altogether. It worked best for me.
Call your doctor - he/she can give you some specific advice. Sounds like it's worked for some but not others.

So i went ahead and took the sugar pills a week before and indeed, I got my period. By the way, I had a great time with my boyfriend
For now, I'm waiting for Af to get here to start the new pack.
I got my period on Dec 8th (only lasted 2 days).
My cycles on the pill are 28 days and when i'm not on the pill, my cycles are 33-35 days. I don't know if I'll get AF on 28 day cycle or 33-35 day cycle. Today is day 29 and no signs of AF... I'm starting to get a bit worried because my boyfriend and I have been using the withdrawl method and I know that's not really safe
I have no signs of AF and normally I start to have symptoms a week before!
What do you think?
