So I was wondering is anyone else on birth control because I'm taking yaz. I was on another kind of before I was diagnosed (othro tri cylen lo) but now they have me on yaz. I thought the reason for my weight gain was the birth control so I stopped taking it and as a result lost my periods. Then I was diagnosed with PCOS and now I am on Yaz. I am curious to find out if anyone else has had this issue.

Yaz and Yasmin are very common for PCOS. Actually these 2 pills are also supposed to help the most with the few pounds a lot of women gain on the pill (due to water retention). Yaz and Yasmin have a mild diuretic in the pill to try and help with the water retention side effect.

My first Dr. who diagnosed me with PCOS put me on Loestrin-- I recently saw a PCOS specialist who immediately put me on Yaz and said that its the best BCP option for women with PCOS. She mentioned the diuretic effect the other poster talked about, and also the unique progesterone in Yaz/Yasmin that has an anti-androgen effect.

Ok that helps I guess I was just worried about Yaz since I had the difficulties with Othro tri cyclen lo. But the info you ladies provided and the things I've read was the reassurance I needed. Thanks
