Default is anyone on byetta?

i have looked through several other threads on byetta here, but it seems that the activity has really tapered off. my endocrinologist put me on it this week and i was just wondering how those of you who have taken byetta are doing. i am interested in weightloss, reduction of pcos symptoms, side effects, etc.

I started byetta just over 3 weeks ago. My endo prescribed it for pcos and IR. I have lost 12 pounds so far. My appetite is starting to come back, but I still seem to be losing weight. So far I haven't noticed any reduction in symptoms, but am hopeful. My weightloss seems different this time though. ( I orginally lost 40 pounds with met and then regained). I am losing more in my stomach this time. My clothes are a lot looser than they were last time at the same weight. Also, probably TMI, but my breasts have lost at least a cup size. I am hoping that will come back. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

thank you for responding! i have just completed my first week on byetta. the side effects are beginning to subside. i have lost about 5 pounds.

the weird thing is that my appetite is suppressed and my carb cravings are gone. i am a little worried that the appetite and cravings will come back, but i think it is because so many things have not worked for me in the past.

good luck with your continued weight loss... keep me posted! what dose are you taking, btw?

hey I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001. I have taken glucophage 2000mg since and BCP. I never could loose more than 15lbs. I was at a stand still and couldnt loose anymore until my PCP put me on byetta around 6 weeks ago. In the beginning you start out with 5mcg. and alot of people say that it makes u sick. To me i had a naustious stomach until i got used to it. I lost 21 pounds in 5 weeks. Since i have went up to 10 mcg and am sicker than a dog. My PCP told me that i have lost more than any of her pts. on byetta in such a short period of time and she also said that the 10 mcg would make me loose more..so good luck on byetta..i dont know what i would do without it..

dixiegirl... congrats on the weightloss! that is awesome. i've lost around 5 lbs my first week and a half... i need to get a more accurate scale so i know for sure though. the weightloss is atypical for me... i'm noticing it coming out of the fatty areas- under my arms, love handles somewhat rapidly. weird. i am still on 5 mcg bid. i am having some nausea still, but it is subsiding. my appetite is waay down.

i *think* that i might even be noticing some of the dark pigmentation from around my neck fading a bit. i don't know if it is my imagination or if it really does fade that rapidly once insulin levels are normalized.

have you seen any reduction in your pcos symptoms? that's what i'm a bit concerned about. well, that and the weight loss.

I am taking the 5 mcg twice a day. My endo said she wouldn't raise me to the 10 until my nausea is gone. I am supposed to call her in 3 weeks and let her know how it's going. I hit 13 pounds this morning, but have noticed that my appetite is really coming back now. I have also noticed that my pen is leaking little drops after I put the needle on, is anyone else having this happen? I still haven't noticed anything with the pcos symptoms, but am still hopeful.

Can someone please tell what is the function or purpose of byetta. is it the same as metformin?

Blink..as for what my PCP told me...she said the purpose of the Byetta is it makes the food in ur stomach empty slower so therefor it makes u feel fuller.. it elevates ur metabolism..
Isenephthys and as for my symptoms i have noticed that the dark areas are kinda disappearing my mood swings are really about the same, but i feel tons better when i get over the nausea..Other than those i dont much believe that anything else has really changed...i take 1000mg bid of Glucophage XR and 10mcg bid of Byetta. I wondered in the beginnin if it would make my BS bottom out but as for now its not really affecting it..

I started byetta earlier this year and used it for 2 months. I couldn't handle the side effects. I couldn't even hold my food down so my blood sugar would drop and my doctor took me off of it. Good luck to you! I hope it works out.

i'm currently just increasing to the 10 mcg sq bid dose... i posted in another thread, but just to recap: i am having some awful nausea and indigestion. also, i am having some dizziness but i am not sure to chalk it up to the byetta or a bout with labyrinthitis. i am going to give it another week or so.

i am taking phenergan for the nausea and meclizine for the dizziness. i am going to add in a ppi for the reflux and see how i feel. also, i talked to my endo and he said to try taking the injection right after i eat and do it in the thigh (rather than the abdomen); both of these changes have helped to alleviate the symptoms somewhat although i find the thigh site somewhat more painful.

i am also going to see about getting an rx for another 5 mcg pen and taking the 5 mcg pen on nights i have to work- i had to skip my dose tonight b/c i was worried about being sick @work.
