Default Anyone conceive naturally?

Hi all,

I'm new on here and I really don't understand most of the acronyms. My partner and I aren't exactly trying to conceive (that's what I'm telling myself), we're just hoping to get pregnant if I keep taking metformin (2000mg) and keep losing weight (currently dropping about 0.5 kg a week). I only have periods about every 2 months or so and have been irregular my whole life (except when on the pill). I'm 30 years old.

My question is, is it possible to conceive naturally this way? Should I start trying other things, or is it worth hanging on while I'm losing weight and seeing if it just happens?

Thanks for your help.

cheers, Sky

i had a bfp 4 years ago from being on no meds at all not even metformin, unfortunately in did end in m/c.
i have seen lots of women on here who ahve conceived with met alone and some without any meds at all. i think you should see how the metformin goes then maybe think about other options such as clomid.

I concieved 3 out of my 4 pregnancies with Metformin only after weight loss. I also got regular AF's which it appears that your body is trying to do. I would chart your temps to see if you are ovulating. You might be surprised that this is happening with your 2 month cycles but late. I O usually around CD 20-23. My cycles are 35-37 days long.

I had my first child w/o taking anything at all. That was almost 8 years ago and I weighed MUCH less then! I was not dx's w/ PCOS at the time but my Dr said that I probably got lucky and caught the once in a blue moon that I o'd. That, or maybed I o'd more often because I weighed less. Who knows!

Red face thanks!

Thanks everyone, that made me feel better!! A couple of questions - what does "bfp" stand for? (I think I figured out the other acronyms) Also, how do I work out if I'm ovulating? Do I need a kit? Can I just get something from a pharmacy? I haven't really had a fertility conversation with my specialist yet, more of an "OMG how do I sort out these crazy symptoms" conversation.

cheers, Sky (downunder in Oz)

Hi,
bfp....big fat positive
bfn....big fat negative
You can buy a o predictor kit from the pharmacy.

Have the real conversation with ur dr don't be scared

Also if you check on the newbie thread it tells you what all the crazy code talk means.

The cheapest way to figure out of your ovulating is to do your temp every morning at the same time before you get out of bed. You can also check your cervical mucus for changes. Taking Charge of Your Fertility or Fertility Friend are some great resources for info on temping. Also if you get a BBT thermometer it will probably come with an info booklet.
The more expensive method is OPK's - basically it's a box of pee sticks you can get a the store. They're pretty expensive and they predict Ovulation by detecting your LH surge. I wouldn't bother with them unless you're actually ttc, at that time they can help you time sex. But they are not accurate for all cysters because some of us have constantly high LH levels or multiple surges during a cycle. I think they work for me, but only if I O, which isn't every cycle!
