Default Anyone from Cornwall???

If you are, then I just wanted to say :

You lucky person!!!!

We went there for the bank holiday weekend, and it is so BEAUTIFUL!!! It felt like we were in a different country, all those beaches..... And the food was lovely as well!

If anyone knows of any nice jobs anywhere down there, let me know, and I will move in a flash!

i want to live in cornwall, too! i'm not sure what kind of jobs are available there, though. where in cornwall did you go? my grandad is from helston, but when i went cornwall, i didn't get to go there. i stayed in a hostel in penzance, and walked through lamorna and mousehole, as well. the coast there reminds me of the coast near where i live, which is partly why i'd want to live there.

I went to Cornwall with my family to chase a total solar eclipse in August 1999 (Marazion, nr Penzance).

Oh boy, how beautiful......!!! We felt that we were in a paradise island, not England. A Cornish lad had said to us that West Cornwall is like a island - WOWWWW!!!

We had camped on a private hotel's garden (with their kind permission) and we were surrounding with beautiful plants and flowers. The hotel owners has three dogs, six cats, rabbits, and the donkeys next door. The sky were full of seagulls (it's true that they are the public's emeny no.1 in Cornwall!). My parents didn't need alarm clock because the animals noise woke my parents up every morning - how blissful!

I wish that I would have moved there fast but I know that it's very hard to get a really good job there.

Have a good and long think. I would certainly encourage you to have a good job and move there. There are lots of positive reasons why you need to move there.

Cheers, Angela

we are going to be grockles this year and go to Cornwall for our holidays. DD is 4 and we thought that we would do the bucket and spade thing and go to the Eden project. Anyway DD keeps telling everyone she meets that we are going to Cornwall, I don't think that she has realised about the hours and hours in the car (from Norfolk). Anyway I may be tempted to get a bikini out if I cvan arrange to get rid of all the hair everywhere so that I don't frighten anyone!

Thumbs up Sorry...just to make you jealous ;)

Well, I am one of those lucky ones! I don't actually live in Cornwall, I am in Plymouth, Devon, close to the Tamar Bridge which you cross to get into Cornwall.

Anyway, we spend a lot of time working in Cornwall and get to see it all year round and it is beautiful in different ways in all seasons. Personally, I prefer this time of year and late Summer, once most of the tourists have gone, as it gets so busy on the roads in high season.

The week before last we spent 4 days there and this week just gone, we were there from Thursday and just got back at 1am this morning. We are back again this coming week from Thursday to Sunday again. Bliss!!!!!!!! We spend more than half our week in Cornwall most of the time in the Summer!

We have a touring caravan and work at many of the Holiday Parks (Pro 2 Piece Band) so during the day if it is nice weather we go to the coast for a drive and a stroll on some of the many beautiful beaches and then we set up our gear around teatime and perform in the evenings! It sounds like a really easy job and I admit there are nice aspects to it but it is also very hard work too.

I would recommend working in Cornwall to all but one thing to consider is that the wages are usually pretty poor but the cost of living is high. There are lots of part time jobs in the Season, such as working in local bars and restaurants and some of the bigger holiday parks have 'redcoats', which can be a very sociable lifestyle. Oh and the other down side is that it tends to rain a lot in Cornwall but it's still nice even in the rain IMO!! I love it there

We were planning on going to Plymouth on the way back from Cornwall but the car broke down and the nice Green Flag people had to take us home (all the way back to Southampton, and on the bank holiday Monday as well... we can sure pick our times!!). We did stop in Honiton on the way, and that was so nice. All those wonderful antique shops....

We went to the Eden Project while we were there. I would recommend going early in the morning, and going to the Tropical Biome first, as it is VERY hot and humid in there and you really don't want to be there when it's packed full of people. Make sure you layer clothes if you are going in cooler weather so you can strip off before going in.

We stayed in Newquay, and I SO understand the seagull thing! We were waking up really early, but it gave us a chance to go and sit by the sea and wait for the restaurant to open for breakfast. It was just the two of us and the tide.

I can't wait to go back there... we are planning on going later on in the summer, and I can't WAIT!!!!

Talking He he he!

Hi all,

I live in Truro & you are all right - it is a wonderful place! I have been here for 9 years this month & there is no-where else in the UK that I would live now. It has its down side - the cost of living is high & wages are low - but the relaxed way of life, coast and countryside make it worth it - of course it could do with a LOT less rain, but then if it didn't rain so much, maybe it wouldn't be so green!

I can't remember who said they wanted to go to the Eden project, but if you get the chance, do go - it gorgous! Wear layers, so you can take them off as you walk up through the bigger dome, as it get very warm and humid near the top!

I know, I am so lucky! Would love to see some of you down here though & can reccommend a good B&B in Truro, if needed!

Take care, Kirstie xx

Hi Kirstie,

I spend a lot of my time in Cornwall and Truro is my fave town/city to shop in Cornwall In fact I will be in Truro on thursday this week!

My bf always has to have a W.C. Rowe chicken pasty, as we only have an Oggy Oggy in Plymouth. Very often there are no chicken pasties left by the time we get there and he is no fun to be around when he gets 'cheated' out of one lol!

As I am low carbing I can't have pasties anymore but I used to be quite partial to a vegetable Oggy pasty myself ~

Do you run a B&B yourself?

Hi Nikki,

No, I don't run a b&b, but there is one that most members of my family have stayed in at some stage when visiting!

You are right about W.C. Rowes pasties - they are fab! One of my closest friends works in there & their shop is about 400 yards from my office, which is not good for the diet AT ALL!

Hope you have a fab day on Thursday, its not raining too much & Rowes have some yummy chicken pasties left! Hmmm, might have to have one for lunch tomorrow now!

Just thought I would add to this.... I love Cornwall, we go to Camelford where my MIL lives about 4/5 times a year.
Truro and Newquay I think are the best places for shopping, Everytime we go down to cornwall we visit somwhere different, its such a lovely place, and Devon.

Just read everyones bit's.....can I go down there now......my brother, wife & iccle nephew live in Plymouth, my parents just outside Crediton, Devon.......we go down as much as possible, work & money allowing.
As soon as you hit the A303 you know you are on you way to a relaxing time, it may be a long old road down there but there is always plenty to see and plenty of rest points. It's nice not to feel hassled comming from Kent everyone is on a mission to get to their destination, down west they get there eventually...We never rush down (well you can't in a 2.5 diesel 110 Landrover!) Exeter is a top place to go, great selection of shops & lots of different little shopping areas with a wealth of independent stores. I'm aiming to move down there in the future but like everyone says it's the jobs. Has anyone out there taken the plunge to move to a different area...was it worth it?

Hi Ladies. I'm originally from Manchester. I moved to Weston Super Mare 4 1/2 years ago and stayed there for two years. I have now lived in Devon for 2 1/2 years and i wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Me & my partner both work on the outskirts of Exeter and it's a lovely 15 minute drive to where we live.

I love baing able to see lots of countryside from my back garden. We're also not very far from the beaches and also the bigger towns for all the shopping. I couldn't ask for any more really.

Love Katherine
