Hey Ladies just wondering if any of you may be dealing with Mac in Hamilton? I have been for a few years and not sure if it is time to change Dr. I love my Dr just don't know if he is thinking about our best interest or his pocket book. Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Tried 2 IUI & 1 IVF/ICIS
Hi Cooper,
I am not sure if many women here are going to MAC but you might want to try this site
I know there are women there that have cycled in Hamilton & hoepfully someone can give you some insight
Hey Beetlegirl,
Thanks for the insight and I will try that site. You just have to wonder if your the only one that feels this way or is having the same kind of treatment. Have you had good experience with whatever clinic you have dealt with?
Thanks Cooper
Hey Cooper,
I have been to 5 clinics across Canada.
I started at a downtown clinic that cared more about money than they did about pateint care. The second clinic I went to was Markham and although the RE did what he promised(got us pregnant with twins) the negligence and ignorance of the dr's staff helped in our loss of the twins at 13 weeks. If I were still in Ontario I would definately go back to Markham but since moving to BC I think I have found the right clinic for us...they found major things previous clinics missed that could effect our fertility.
Anyways if I can help in anyway let me know.
Hey BeelteGirl,
Thanks for your input, I had 2 very strong embryo's with the IVF but because they only put me on progesterone 2 time a day we lost them only 7 days after the transfer and the Dr that transfered them said she would be shocked if we didn't carrying twins but my own Dr prescibed me the pro. that's when I felt they were just their to make the money. My bio is PCOS, and one blocked tube and small mf and they didn't even try met, is this normal and they only tried 2 IUI with 50 mg Clomid? any suggestion would be great
Hey Cooper,
I had issues with my first clinic not putting me on met(I got it from my family dr while we cycled) They also missed numerous things didn't listen to us & lost a frozen embryo. Many women that I have spoke to have spoke highly of the clinic...that is why there are so many different clinics because everyone is looking for differnt treatments, responses etc.
My experience taught me to do research...lots and lots of research.
Before moving on to Markham, I educated myself with my chart, and what went wrong with our cycles, that way when I switched I knew what I was talking about. I also did alot of research about the clinic we were moving to...got opinions...good & bad and still felt it was a good move for us.
From there we moved across the country and we met with a RE at the clinic that is supposed to have the best stats in Canada but we didn't seem to connect. We spent more time arguing than we did anything else...I knew this wasn't the clinic for us. Luckily we moved even further West and I met with another RE and we didn't connect she didn't bother to read my chart and was upset when we wouldn't write her a cheque.
We left the appointment and I did what I do best...more research.
I found the clinic in Victoria, BC the RE has discovered more major health issues in the short time I have been dealing with them than any of our previous clinics. He discussed all our options, didn't dismiss our ideas & actually seemed to care.
After all that we have been through...that is all we are looking for...someone who cares...someone to take the time and answer our questions, read our chart & care for us.
If you are not happy at your current clinic...meet with others.
An hour consult can go along way.
Although some charge...some don't.
I wish we would have known 4 years ago what we know now. I think we would have skipped allthe clinics we went to and would have put more effort & time into findng the right clinic for us.
Alot of dr's don't know us much as they should when it comes to PCOS so finding a dr that is right for you is the best thing you can do.
Anyways sorry for the ramble. Good Luck no matter what you decide to do.

Hey BeetleGirl,
I like to read you babbling on cause atleast I know I am not alone. Your story has made me feel encouraged that I will find a ER/DR that understand what we want. Our whole problem is that my DH is much older then myself so time is a issue even though I know this things can't be rushed. Atleast because I am in Ontario I have not had to pay for any consults just the IUI and IVF but they are alot of $$$$. I love my RE personality just think that he is ignorant to PCOS and that's costing me time. However I think that I will make an appointment to discuss what I have learned on this site such as MET and atleast give that a try we are also considering adoption. Well must run for now Please keep in contact and good Luck to you and yours.
Cooper
Hello again,
We are also pursuing adoption...we started the process for the third time when we moved out here to BC.
My dh is older too(17 years infact) luckily I have a little time left on my side. We have so many factors working against us it would definately be a medical miracle if we even achieved a pregnancy with IVF.
Anyways make sure you keep me updated with what happens.
Lori
Thanks it helps to vent even if it is about the same stuff. There is a 24 yr age difference between my dh and myself, the whole thing that upsets me is that OUR families have excepted it and we are close to both sides but the CAS has to attack us in our own home. Now I am thinking of going back through CAS but asking for a different social worker that may be a little understanding because as with finding the right Re you also need the right social worker as well. I am adopted and that could be partly the reason I have this need to have my own child and I don't think this feeling will every go away even if we do adopt but the finacial part of IVF is putting our $$ tight and that stinks. So I guess you can call me crazy because I would love to have our own child and would like to adopt as well really if I could afford it I would have 6 kids and be a stay at home mom. When it comes down to it I think we all would like to just stay at home with our kids but none of us can afford it. What are the adotions rules out in B.C. and are you thinking international, domestic or private ? Well gotta go for now and thanks for the "snowflake" TTFN
Christina
Hi Christina,
Our first worker that we had in Ontario totally had issues with our age difference when we began our homestudy. She was like wow there's quite an age difference, we were like sure whatever, then she was like did your family have problems with it...ummm NO!... Well what about your friends...NO...wells omeone must have had a problem with your age difference...actually she is the only one that we have encountered that had an issue. Because we were doing the private adoption thing back then we fired her. We could only imagine what she would have wrote in our homestudy.
We have decided that since we have had practice that this time we will only tell them what they need to know and nothing more.
In the meanwhile we are very slowly persuing IVF for the last time...I'm the type of person that needs closure.
Anyways have a good night & keep in touch.
Ya see that's my problem, I can't stand people that sit there a judge your realtionship because we have been together for sooooooo long that I feel like that should prove our stability. See it was that bad social worker that made us more me decide to try IVF because atleast then I do not have the social worker judging whether or not we are fit to have a child based on our age difference. I would love to try the IVF again but financially I don't know if that is going to happen. As painful as the retrieval is I would do it a 100 times if that's what it took but it's way too expensive. Well I hope everything goes well in the prepartion for your IVF and let me know how things go. Talk to ya later
Hey Christina,
Just wanted to let you know that the clinic in Markham puts you out for retrieval...it was so much better and I hate the fact that they don't do it out here...I would pay big bucks to get put under again...it was so painful on our first retrieval.
I sooo know what you mean I thought I was going to jump right off the table during my retrieval. The funny but scary thing I drove home after it was done cause my DH only has a G2 so he is not allowed to drive on the 400 highways and the seditives they gave me didn't work. I wish they would have just put me out but then we would have had to get someone to go with us. Do you know when your going to start the IVF again? Well gotta go for now talk to ya later.
Hi Cooper!! I cannot beleive how much we have in common!!!! I too am ttc with only one fallopian tube, pcos, and male factor!! My dh's issue is motility and count. He's been taking vitamins and we won't know until we do our IUI what his count is now. Went from 9 million, and 4 million, to 23 (or 32) million!! I was not happy with my RE at the University Hospital in London! We met with him in Sept'05 and all he's accomplished so far was the dye test in Oct'05, lap in April'06 (he made me lose weight first!), then he let me have an 81 day cycle only to find the cyst still there! He thought I was about to ovulate so he left it alone during my lap. He then put me on bcp's to shrink the cyst and I ended up having af for about 6 weeks! I was taking 2 bcp's a day and added another med (6 pills a day) to finally get that to stop! Ended up with a 73 day cycle and finally got to start clomid in Sept'06!! Well, I did three cycles of clomid completely unmonitored! Ended up with more cysts and because it was close to Christmas he told me to just make an appt in January! Went back, cysts were still there so put me on bcp's again! That's when I went to see Dr Martin. Am sooooo glad I did! He was surprised I was unmonitored on clomid, not even a p4 test done at 7dpo. My old RE wouldn't do IUI with us. Would change what he said everytime I would see him. In the summer 2X he 'confused' us with another couple! Didn't explain things very well to us. And was pushing IVF from the very first meeting with him! Dr Martin is so thorough! He's doing cycle monitoring with us starting on cd11 I go in every day for blood work and u/s until I ovulate. He will give the trigger shot if needed and progesterone support if he suspects we need it too! He hasn't gotten our records yet from the hospital and doesn't know the extent of dh's male factor so I can't say for sure he isn't going to recommend IVF too. If he does though, at least I've gotten my second opinion and one shot at IUI. Personally if you can switch over I would. Bit of a hike though from Hamilton. Dr Martin did say to me that he works out of the Mississauga (spelling?) hospital and does IVF retreival and transfer at that hospital and they have the highest success rate for IVF in Ontario!! Dr Martin charges $4,500 for IVF ($1,000 less than my old RE) and then there is the cost of meds on top of that. I hope that this has helped a bit. Best wishes to you!!!! I really hope you get that VERY much deserved bfp hun!!!!
