Question Anyone develop diabetes while taking Metformin?

I am worried I may have developed diabetes.

I have taken metformin for a year now. Now my cycles are gone again (I had them before) and my blood sugars are messed up. I am getting highs an lows. I had lows before taking metformin and it went away for about a year now. I am also going to the bathroom more. I used to go once a night and now it is 2-3 times.

I have gained 30lbs without doing anything different. And I am worried about diabetes. I had gestational diabetes before and this is what I felt like.

Well let me know what you think.

Hi Sarah, I can't tell you for sure but I think I have developed diabetes on Met. I have gained 12 pounds since January and I have been having highs and lows too. It's kind of like it's the opposite of how it should be. My sugar was 145 this morning and 70 when I got home from work this evening. I could barely make dinner, I was nauseated, sweating, shaking. I drank part of a regular soda but it didn't really help. It wasn't until I actually started eating that I felt better.

I am going to ask my dr about adding Byetta to my metformin. I have been reading that a lot of people have had success in losing weight and gaining better control of their sugars using the comination of both. There are actually studies going on right now of women w/ PCOS using byetta and metformin. I hope you haven't developed diabetes but you should check with your dr just in case.

Thanks Mandi!

I was beginning to think I was the only one! I was doing wonderfully and now I feel the glucophage/met has just stopped working.

I am definitely going to see the RE. He was booked for a week (unless I drove an hour to see him) and on vacation for a week. Since it isn't urgent (liked it was when we did a round of injectables) I figured I would just wait.

It is unfortunate and crappy that you feel the way I do, but it made me feel alot better to know I am not alone.

I meant that I developed diabetes despite being on the met.

I never thought it would give me diabetes.

Thanks!
