Default Anyone Eat Hummus?

I'm looking at trying hummus. I understand it makes a good and healthy dip for raw vegetables for one. Do any of you like hummus?

yummy stuff...its just ground up chickpeas with any variety of flavors in it. Not only good for veggies but whole grain crisps or crackers like Kashi.

Whole Foods Market sales a multitude of varieties. I just recently had the pesto/garlic hummus and it was good. Its served cold, but I bet it would be good a little warmer from the microwave.

It's one of my favorite foods. It has a nice, rich flavor and it's great with cut veggies. Stear away from Athenos and most store bought versions, because they sometimes put junk like high fructose corn syrup in it. That doesn't do anyone good.

It is so easy to make. Just throw some chick peas in the blender with a shot of white wine (or the canned chick pea juice), sea salt and fresh ground pepper and you have hummus. For added flavour, you can toss in some garlic and red pepper (fresh or roasted).

Basic Hummus
1 (12 ounce) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1/3 cup tahini
1/4 cup lemon juice (or to taste)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic (or to taste)
salt and pepper

Blitz together in a food processor (never a blender... too hard on the motor) until smooth (or leave chunks if you like).

Now, you can roast a head of garlic and add that in place of the fresh stuff. You can add roasted red pepper, too. And a little fresh parsley would be nice.

I love, love, love hummus. Yummy. It's great with tons of stuff - you can put it on bread with a bunch of veggies and it makes a wonderful sandwich. I love to dip pieces of pita bread in it too.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... very garlicy; but awesome; it's really good with warmed up pita bread (you can buy the 100 percent whole wheat); stick it in the oven with a brushing of olive oil and parmesean cheese; then you can either dip it in hummus or taziki (really really really good!!!!!) ....also good with veggies....

I have only had it once from a deli and it almost made me ralph! I am thinking maybe I just didn't like that kind and was going to try to make some myself and get a better opinion.

It is something of a national food in these parts. Israelis eat hummus with most everything - on bread as is or as a spread for cold cuts.
It can also be a whole meal if served with a salad and hard boiled eggs. This meal is usually eaten with your fingers and pita bread. Personally I have it with a fork - which cuts down the carbs, but makes me the butt of many jokes.
I read someplace that hummus with tahini (like Ajani's recipe) comprises a full protein (i.e. includes all of the essential amino acids), so all in all it's a really healthy food if you don't load up on carbs or fats.

Hummus is lovely!

A strange recipe Idea for you. My friend loves to eat hers in a sandwich with salt and vinegar crisps, not the healthiest way to eat it.

Ive never tried it but she swears by it!!

I love it!!! Cedarlane makes a really good version for storebought. But it is really easy to make yourself. Ajani gave you a good recipe. You can personalize it by adding things like kalamata olives, or roasted red peppers, or fresh herbs. I would advise your first time out that you add half the Tahini, see how you like it, and then add more.

Can't beat it on a Triscuit!

I love it. I am trying to stay away from mayo so I use that instead when I have a sandwich. I also eat it with pita bread, and dip veggies in it
