Default Anyone else coping off Rx meds?

I have basically been a depressed person since my early teens. I've done the prescription anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, etc meds before and they just seemed to make me worse (I was more suicidal on meds then off). I have been to shrinks, therapists and counselors starting in Jr. High up to my early 20s. I just seem to get no benefit.

I bounce back and forth (right now things are pretty good), but sometimes I totally flip out. I get myself worked up and its almost like I can't control what's going on with me. I say things I don't mean, I feel things I don't want to feel, I think things I don't want to think...

Anyways, I just wanted to know if there is anyone else out there coping with these problems off meds? Or am I crazy (pardon the pun) for even trying to live a normal life off meds?

Amshun,

I've had mood swings for a long time (in retrospect, probaby due to hormonal imbalance) and have always tried to cope "off meds".

I've heard that St John's Wort is a good, herbal, over-the-counter way to treat depression.

Yes I believe that's where my swings come from - hormonal imbalances.

I guess I'm just one of those people RX meds don't do any good. Its very difficult sometimes, but I manage thru most days just fine.

I have looked into St. John's Wort and I'm still deciding if I want to go that route. I have been taking B-12 sublingual for a couple of months now I reckon, so... It seems to help with my energy level, but not much with my depression.

i tried the St. Johns and it did nothing for my depression. The only thing that really worked for me was when I was on 80mg of Paxil but the weight gain from that was terrible. Plus I wasn't as happy as I would like to have been, but the terrible lows were gone. Right now I take 40 mg of Celexa and it is ok. Good days and bad.
Just thought I would share.

Thanks! That's what I'm worried about with the St. John's Wort. Money is tight and I don't want to spend money on something that may not work for me. I was on Celexa at one point, and it did nothing for me as well. I guess I don't know what is wrong with me that the RX meds don't do anything, or make it worse. I was on some anti-depressant and Buspar at the same time at one point a couple of years ago, and I had so many suicidal thoughts it was driving me crazy... So what do you do? *sigh*

Amshum - do you have pets by chance? I swear, my pets are the best anti-depressant ever. When I cried after my 3rd loss, my dog licked the tears off my face. You can't NOT laugh when a dog is doing that, even if you are sad.

Yeah I do have two pets... Harvey's my rabbit, Cody is my cat. I do love them and they (most of the time haha) make me feel better. Its just I don't really know what happens to me sometimes that *nothing* works. Joshua will literally be on the phone with me and suddenly my mood will shift, and he doesn't know what to do with me. Sometimes I get mean with him, and he has to tell me what I'm doing so I will stop. I dunno.

Things are pretty good in my life right now, so I'm not so bad, but I just get afraid of those swings, ya know?

I see that google ad at the top for Amoryn. Anybody take that?
