Did anyone else buy the new Casting Crowns CD "The Altar and the Door" last month? I pre-ordered it (because they sent a free CD to a soldier in Iraq with every one pre-ordered here...how cool is that? )
I sometimes fill in for a Christian music radio show and thought that I could use a few of the songs on the show. After listening to it, I will be able to use ANY of them...they are all pretty good!

BTW that's so cool you work on a Christian station! How fun! I'm a fan of Air1!...a national christian station

Yes, it came out on Aug. 28. It's really good. I really like all the tracks.
The funny thing is I don't work for a Christian radio station. It's a community radio station and covers the whole gamut of shows...World Music, which often includes Eastern religions and trance, vintage rock shows, bluegrass, Zydeco, Environmental talk shows, reggae music, etc. Yet, they include this Christian rock show and also an Orthodox Christian show that I sometimes fill in for. I have met people that are pretty much anti-Christian there, yet it's amazing that the station still carries Christian shows. So, while the diversity is good, I am happy and proud to be part of the Christian shows.
I havent heard anything off of it yet except East from the West-they play it on the radio station I listen to-i love them, though-i have sang Praise you with the dance and who am I at church before-they are so awesome

I am in the process of buying old CDs on ebay, and haven't been new CD shopping in a while. Thanks for posting about this. DH might like this for Christmas
Let me know what you think!
Another CD I just got is some of the old gospel music sung by one of the gospel greats, Mahalia Jackson. Wow, she was good and what a voice!

ebay is a good idea for this. I just bought a used CD collection on amazon.com of Scott Wesley Brown. I hope it will play OK when I get it. He was a Christian artist that I used to listen to in the late 1970's - early 1980's. His songs of this time were great. His later stuff is OK (Praise songs and such), but not nearly as unique sounding.

I dont think I have heard any of Scott Wesley Brown's stuff- i have a Crabb family CD that is a couple of yrs old but havent listened to it lately-we sing "I am a friend of God" at church-I hear they are great in concert-Chris Tomlin is coming to Nashville in Oct and I would love to go see him, but we have NO extra funds right now

Yes, that's "He Will Carry You", one of his best known songs. When you first hear it, you think, "oh yeah, that's pretty good". Then it goes through your head (in a good way, not an annoying way!) and becomes quite a wonderful and comforting life song!
Scott Wesley Brown also has a peppy song called, "I'm Not Religious, I Just Love the Lord!" One of my favorites is a quiet song of his called "I Wish you Jesus."
I saw him in concert in our town around about 1981 or so. He put on a great show.
He wrote a lot of "classic" contemporary Christian music, which a lot of artists still sing, but it's hard to find his original recordings nowadays.
He was really big in the late 1970's - early 1980's. In the mid 1990's he sort of gave up the music scene because he felt that God was calling him to overseas ministries. He did a lot of missionary work in Africa and other countries. Not sure what he is up to today.
Believe it or not, the Gaither Vocal Band does a great A Cappella rendition of "He Will Carry You" on their CD called "A Cappella". I know their shows can be a little hokey, but they have good voices!

I agree, Jash! During that time I listened to a lot of Keith Green.
He wrote a lot of inspirational songs that could really convict your heart and soul. Sadly, he and two of his children were killed in a plane crash in 1982.
I have played his music on the radio show and some callers are so glad to hear it and it brings back good memories for them.

There was a memorial show dedicated to Rich Mullins a few weeks ago. He died in the 1990s. It's so sad when people who write such inspiring and moving Christian music pass away.
