Question Anyone else experienced this?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board so first let me apologize for asking any "duh" questions.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2002 and took Yasmin until August 2007 to regulate my periods. My husband and I are trying to conceive and I was placed on Metformin ER 1500mg a day in September 2007. My periods were right on time, 28 day cycles, until December. In December I was 1 week late, January I was 2 weeks and 4 days late and now I am currently 2 weeks, 1 day and counting.

Has anyone had this experience of regulated cycles & then suddenly they become longer? Is it possible the Yasmin was still in my system the first few months and this is what caused my cycles to be regular? I'm curious if there's anyone else out there sharing my frustrations.

This site is amazing & full of so much great information; I'm so happy I found it!

Welcome!

I know that most drs don't want to check for PCOS through bloodwork until BCP have ran their course through your body - sometimes it can be 6 months so it is possible you could of still had the Yasmin in your system.

Just to clarify, I was actually diagnosed with PCOS in 2002; when diagnosed I had been off BC for a year and a half. I went to the doctor because my periods were very irregular & prior to being on BC were like clockwork. I'm wondering now if my periods were 'regular' Sept-Dec because of the Yasmin still in my system (I stopped Yasmin when I was put on Metformin) or if the Metformin was working correctly. I'm curious now if the dosage needs raised.

This might be a silly question, but have you tested yet?

I had been on Yasmin from I don't know when. I started Met sometime in 06. DH and I got married in Sept. of 06 and I came off the Yasmin in October. November was normal timing for me. In December I was 2 weeks late. Then in January I was 2 weeks late again. But then I started feeling sick to my stomach on top of it. The following week I got my BFP. I know have a very happy healthy 6mth old

Good luck and hope you get it figured out!

It didn't happen for me this way, but some cysters have relatively normal cycles for a while after coming off BCP's. I guess it takes a while for the hormones to get out of whack enough to cause problems in that area. After a while, though, the hormones get more out of balance and cycles get more irregular.

You should probably talk to your doctor about it. Do you know if you're ovulating or not? You can have AF without o'ing. If you're not already, you might want to start tracking your cycles, temping and all, to see if you are or not.

Wow that's amazing! I tested when I was late in Dec & also in January. I have not tested this time around; I figured I was just late, yet again. If I don't start by the weekend I'll test.

I wasn't on Yaz but Zovia another form of bc(5yrs), and got off if in May '07 out of curiosity to see if I could go by myself. I did for about 8 months went every 28 days, then they starting going crazy from 35 to even 42 day cycles. My new Endo said that was too long and so she is wanting to put me on Yaz,Met, and Spiro. So yes your cycles can get out of wack after being off the pill for awhile.

Well I tested on Friday and it was Negative; I'm still waiting on AF to arrive! How frustrating, it's now 3 weeks late.

I'm so sorry. I'm not real sure why it's taking so long. Maybe you do need a higher dosage of Met. I hope you can get it worked out. <<>>
