I had a laparoscopy on Wednesday just gone and they re-did a hysterosalpingogram while I was asleep.
They confirmed that I had PCOS in my right ovary (instead of the previously thought BOTH) however my left fallopian tube is blocked and can't be unblocked - so ironically neither side still works properly !
My question is - I read up about the procedure before having it done and I expected to be up and about and back at work after a week at most. However I am STILL in agony. I have an enormous bruise stretching from my belly button to almost my pubic bone and about as wide as an orange.
I just can't understand why nothing seems to mask the pain. It's the kind of pain you get when you are hungry - but stronger - and it never goes away whether you eat or not !
My question is - did anyone else here have this experience ? Tomorrow will be the 6th day since the op, and I cant understand why the pain isn't fading. Doctors can't find any obviuous problem, however the op should have lasted 30 mins and lasted 2.5 hours !
You need to talk to your doctor. MAKE him understand that you think something is wrong (it sounds like something is!). If he won't see you or still doesn't find anything wrong, go to another doctor until someone gives you an answer that makes sence!

I ended up going to accident and emergency on Sunday cos I was in so much pain and needed something stronger. They checked my stomach (felt it) and couldn't find anything obvious. I did have problems with urine retention - but have done for a while - and with that i just feel pressure not pain. It did take me 4 days before i could wee like i could before (ALMOST normally).
Today I went back to the doctors as my belly button has white stuff in it. It looks different to the stitches but kinds looks like it's PART of the belly button ?! It smells kind of infected too. They said it was a little "gunky" (sorry for the detail !) but to just keep washing it with water in the bath and drying with a hairdryer to ensure compleltey dry (which I have been doing anyway).
I am taking double the normal pain killers to stay sane but am not really "with it" anymore.
I had a lap and none of the problems that you describe. Stay on top of it...hope you feel better soon. Do you think they could have tried to clear the blockage?

They said it couldnt be unblocked when I asked about it.
It would be really nice to hear from anyone else who had the procedure - even if they didnt have any problems. i don't know anyone else who has had it done.
omg... sounds like an infection... that needs to be addressed immediately. I was meant to have a similar procedure last year but my mother decided not to let me do it. IN her infinite wisdom she decided that I couldn't possibly have anything other than pcos -_- and that having a lap wasn't worth the risk of general anesthetic... of course I didn't get a lot of say in this.. despite it being MY BODY... i'm thinking now that after my baby's born and i'm healed enough, i'm going to go and get it done on my own. I need to know what the hell is causing my pain, and it's about the only way to do that. Besides, at the same time I can get a IUS fitted. That was always the plan.
I hope you feel better soon! it may be internal bruising from the length of the proceedure, but you can never be too careful. Keep a very very close eye on your stitches, they can go nasty very very fast (I've never had a lap, but i've had piercings which do a similar thing... they turn like that). If anything changes, get to A&E immediately. If the pain increases, get to A&E immediately.. Take care, take it easy and keep a close eye on yourself.

I can honestly say that unless I was already in pain daily I would NEVER have this done again.
The first picture was taken 3 days after the procedure.
The second is my belly button right now.
I have been to A and E twice because of the pain and saying I was worried about the stitches. On both occassions they told me "go home and take paracetamol".
I then went to the doctor. She is the one who told me to keep goin in the bath . I have to clean my belly button every hour to get rid of the stuff from the edges. And I have no idea what the white part is....
This morning I was sick as soon as I woke up before even eating - I have no idea why !
When I had my lap, I was on the couch with Vicodin for 2 days then that was it. I took 2 weeks off work, just b/c my job involves so much lifting, pulling, stooping, etc.
Have you talked to your surgeon? What you are describing is not normal, and if you think something is infected, it probably is. I would talk with your surgeon, show him what is going on and ask ask ask tons of questions until they do find out what is going on!
I don't think people who have had open heart surgery are as uncomfortable as you are a week after their procedure. The whole point of laprascopy is to be quick, efficient and less painful than an "open" procedure!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Did they just look or did they do any procedures ?
I had the dye injected in my tubes again.
I have called the unit where they did the surgery - they keep telling me to go see my GP.
Thats half the problem - the frustration that everyone wants to pass the buck.
I may try calling their office tomorrow and ask to speak to them direct. So far I just spoke to nurses on the unit.
It's scarey though that the advice is SO different depending who you speak to - and the fact that no one seems to want to have anything to do with you once the surgery is over ...
I'm frsutrated that I wasn;'t even given the correct info about the incisions. In my pre-op I was told it would be NEXT to my belly button. Although this would have meant less visibke scarring - I think I would have preferred it on the pure "ick" factor and the fact that I guess cleaning ect would have been easier to do.
I had a repeat HSG and ovarian drilling, and an adhesion removed from my right tube (gallstone had kinked off one of my tubes, although the first HSG showed the tube was open, it was basiclly non-functional). I was a little bruised, but not bad, considering how fluffy my belly is.
I would say keep making noise...the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If nothing else, most docs will see you just to shut you up .
Good luck
