Smile anyone else have a skin allergy?

Hi everyone!

I am a newbie to PCOS and I am slowly trying to link all my problems to see if it is because of PCOS. I have had an allergic skin reaction for over a year now. I've had my doctor look at it to prescribe something that didn't work and my dermo gave me allegra but doesn't help all the time. The thing is, this all started happening just a little before I found out about my PCOS and no one can seem to figure it out. I get little itchy areas that are like bug bites on my legs, my stomach, back... pretty much anywhere, and then after awhile they all go away, only to come back later. It's driving me crazy, but I was just curious to see if anyone else had a problem like this... thanks for your help...

Sounds like when I was diagnosed with eczema. So yes, I have skin allergies. What worked for me is to watch what things go on my skin -- I've had to change what soaps and laundry detergents I use and fabrics that I wear. I still get a reaction sometimes anyway, especially when my skin gets dried out or overly hot and sweaty but it's much better than it used to be.

I have something as well, but it doesn't sound like what you describe. I thought mine was psoriasis at first, but I've been to two different docs that say it's not. The first time it started happening (LONG after I knew I had PCOS though) it was under my right arm, near my armpit. The spot grew and grew over a matter of probably 18 months. Then I started getting spots behind my knees, on my elbows, then on my neck. Finally when I started to get a spot on my neck was when I said "alright, I'm going to the doc". Well, he prescribed me some cream that did nothing. Eventually all, but the one under my arm went away. When we moved and I found a new doc, I went in to see her. She prescribed me a different cream and from the very moment I put it on my skin it spot stopped itching (it itched SOOOO bad...I'd wake myself up at night scratching or make it bleed...it was bad) and never itched again. Now, after a while it completely went away, so I stopped using the cream, but eventually over 6-12 months, it came back, so I'm back to using it. I'm currently "spot free," but if I notice something on my skin I use the cream. Still not sure what exactly it is/was though. The first doc said it was eczema, but he was ...well, I didn't like him. My current doc blatently stated that she didn't know, but if this cream was working than that's all that mattered. She said it could be some kind of a fungus, but I was absolutely disguisted to hear that. I'm a SUPER clean person showering at least once per day. I always wash everything including my hair...I'm just clean. To think of a fungus. Nasty. But ah, who knows.

I'm also alergic to nickel.

I have the same exact thing. I get these red bumps all over my body and they're itchy and uncomforable, but go away after a little bit of time. Usually accompanied with a rash on my legs. I figured out that it was my fabric softener, body wash, and detergent... so basically that has any contact with my skin. Since I've been using scent free, dye free, sensitive skin items it has cleared up drastically!!! My clothes don't get to smell all downy fresh anymore, but I would trade that anyday to not have to deal with those nasty things anymore.

Give it a try.

Yes !! Sounds like we may have the same problem. I do also get a small rash on my leg, and I have noticed that usually my itchy bumps are where my clothes are... near my underwear line or around my bra. When I asked my derm. if it was my detergent he was quick to say no, but I've always wondered it was. I will try what you did and hopefully I can say bye to the itchiness. Although right now I have no bumps at all... weird how it comes and goes like that. But I am glad to find out I am not alone. Thanks for the info!

OMG! I have these irritating allergies too. When I scratch it, they'd be like all red and they itch so much! They also grow like small groups of bumps on some areas and they are very irritating. My doctor says it must be stress! I don't understand.
