Default Anyone else have these symptoms?

Hi-

I think I'm finally getting the hang of this. Just to start, I have not been diagnosed with PCOS, but I believe I have it. I have 2 children - 4 & 2 and I never had any problem conceiving. I never had a screwy period until after I gave birth to my 2 year old son. After him, I had severe depression, my hair starting falling out like crazy, and my period has not been the same since. I don't have any pain or cramping, but I had a lot of spotting and just general funkiness going on.

My question is this...is PCOS something that you always have, or is it something that may come on later in life from some kind of trigger - say having a baby or being under a lot of stress. I am very confused. I lean towards PCOS because of the male pattern baldness and I got skin tags aroung my breasts and arms and I had a really dark scaly patch on my left elbow. I gained about 40 pounds after my son was born in about 3 months. I have since lost 40 pounds and I have about another 25-30 to go, so I feel like things should begin to normalize. I don't know what to expect.

Does anyone have any info about never having had symptoms to having a multitude of symptoms later in life? I am 34 years old and I dont really know where else to turn. I have spoken with my doctors and they dismiss PCOS because I never had trouble conceiving. Is this a hard and fast rule for PCOS?

Please...I would really appreciate any info that is out there. Oh, I failed to mention that I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis which I hear is a very common symptom for women with PCOS.

i also started my period at 10 years old...I also have turned a little mean lately. I have inherited a really bad mean streak that I never had before. It's almost like it's uncontrollable.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer!

Maria

Default Anyone else have these symptoms?

Hi, I am new to this board and new to PCOS also I just found out a few days ago. I just turned 36. I had my first child at 20 and my second at 30. I was very fertile. I got pregnant on the first trys. Since my last child I have had problems with my periods, cramping, hair growth in places I don't want and thinning hair in places that I need hair, skin tags in the same places you mentioned, darker colored places, hypogyclemic episodes, weight gain, etc. Luckily I went to a doctor for an annual. I haven't had one since 2001 and after SHE spent quite some time with me she said I believe you have PCOS and I would like to do some tests. I had no idea what that was. Now I am learning. I go back Thursday for some ultrasounds. So to answer your question. I had no problems getting pregnant then. My mom called me Fertile Mrytle. But now I would probably have. So yes I don't see how your doctor could say that because I was very fertile in the past but now I have multitudes of PCOS symptoms. Maybe you should change doctors, get a second opinion. My doctor is a female and she is also a fertility specialist in case that makes a difference. I do know I may have let mine go to long because my uterus is enlarged. She said by the exam she thinks It is the size of a 3 month pregnant lady but she needs to do an ultrasound to measure and see exactly. Think of Doctors as SERVICE PROVIDERS not GODS. If you are not happy with the info they have gave you and won't take you seriously get another. You are paying for their service. Get the service you deserve. Be Good to yourself your family needs you! Joyce

I had a very regular cycle and NO symptoms until I went off the pill. It seemed that the second I went off, my body freaked out. I always wondered if the pill did something to mess me up, or if I always had it and didnt realize it because the pill kept the symptoms under control. Who knows?

Yes you can develope it later in life. It can be triggered my hormone changes and/or even illness and stress.(or happens to happen at the same times)

For me, things got real bad after my tubal was done. I too had been on BCP for many years. I then came off them and started having mild undx'd symptoms. At about age 30 I told the doctors things were not right. That first doctor sent me to a "specialist". Then that "specialist" asked me if I would be willing to do a reversal. He said that prgnacy would eliminate the problems I was having!!

I told him HE!L no!!
It got up and said "Well there is nothing I can do for you" and walked out of the room!!
I was floored!!

So a few more years went by, I gained another 50 pounds and I came accross a new dr. She knew right away what I had and how to start treatment.
She has since been very supportive and willing to work with me.

The thing is, menapausal symptoms whether natural or otherwise can cause the same symptoms. So if you are having issues with your ovaries, you can go into perimenapause as early as your twenties. Most doctors don't call it that though.
Thus we have PCOS as a name because of the added symptoms.

So many things can go wrong...it is up to us to figure it out.

Patty

Thumbs up

Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories with me...I thought maybe I was crazy. I still have some testing to go through, but I wanted to ask anyone if you have had any results simply through weight loss and exercise without having to be medicated. I never take meds for anything, except now I'm forced to take synthroid because my body was such a mess. I'm seeing a naturopath and she's also a nutritionist, but I don't want to go on any other medicines. I try to be as homeopathic as possible.

If someone could share success stories to give me hope, that would be great!

Good luck to all of you out there!

Maria

Wink PCOS? My first detections.

I also had very regular periods, but started having spontainous spotting in-between periods. The thing I noticed the most was being constantly hungry, gaining weight (expecially upper body) and being fatigued beyond normal. I knew for four yrs. that something was really wrong. It wasn't until I went to an infertility specialist that I was diagnosed. Sadly, it took 2 miscarriages to get me into the infertility specialist, thus to lead me to the diagnosis. I begged my OBGYN (2 yrs ago) to test my hormones, cause I knew something was wrong with me. He wouldn't do it. My advise is to read this site backward and forward, compare your symptoms to what is posted, seek out a specialist, and get on the proper meds and START LOW CARB immediately! Metoformin combined with low to no carb has changed my life and body. I feel so much better.

Never stop until you have some answers. Start low carb today. You will feel so much better, since carbs really irritate PCOS.

Love and Hugs!
